I think strength is often related to first gear higher numerical weaker it is. Looks like good thoughts on it. I autocrossed my 79 Camaro with a decent HP 383 before it got the IA2 with one out of a 81 Z28.

Yes, the weak link is the 1st gear on the countergear. Higher numerical ratio means smaller diameter gear. Mine is the 2.43 first gear....the strongest of the bunch. For road racing, I'm expecting 3rd gear and both sets of synchronizers to get the biggest workout.
