car storage in Punta Gorda area
 

Hey fellas- moving to Punta Gorda, looks like my Catalina will need a home too. Tried the Smart Stop Storage place on Rt 41, waiting list for a 10'x25' spot. The place is climate controlled, 24/7 access, well kept. And their other locations in Naples and Sarasota, also no luck. Anybody know of other options down there? Gonna need something by the end of June

Cant help with storage, but my folks had a place in Port Charlotte. Beautiful area to be in. Good luck with finding a place.

Thanks, it'll be nice not have to deal with cold and snow anymore, plus I can finally drive the cars year 'round

Have you tried the Ft Myers/ Cape Coral area? I'm sure most of the places are full due to snowbirds leaving and storing cars. I'm sure climate controlled is going to limit your options.

Well, it looks like the car will fit in the garage. Cat is coming in @ 18'3", I have 19'6" of space so it'll have a few inches fore and aft. You're correct, a lot of snowbirds are storing their cars for the summer, and the PG area is booming

We moved to the area in 2019, in the last year things really exploded. They are quoting 18 mos for a new build. They are building spec homes and then have buyers bid on them.

My folks bought their place in Port Charlotte prob 20 - 25 years ago. It was in a gated golf course community with a variety of housing. From double wides up to 4 bedroom behemoths. The year dad died there was a big hurricane that hit Punta Gorda direct, lots of damage. Moms house had very little. She was afraid after that that she would have a hard time selling it. She got about 3x's what they paid and it sold in a month. That was after owning it for about 5 years.

As a side note, my mothers family has lived in FLA for several generations, and at one time they were in the Miami area. When dad decided to retire there he did a lot of research on where the best place to be was. PG/Port Charlotte area was one of the least likely areas in the state to be hit by a hurricane. Happens very rarely.
