Trunk lid emblem?

My 72 sport Lemans convertible had a trunk lid (off car) with a Pontic emblem on it. That emblem has 4 studs. The trunk lid the previous owner painted to go with the car for assembly has three holes in it. Ames tells me the 72 has no emblem on the trunk lid. Is this a fact? If so, I now have three holes to fill on a painted trunk lid. Dang!!

I'm fairly certain it said PONTIAC in the middle below the trunk lock.

It may also have had a potmetal dealer nameplate on it.

Where are the three holes located? Center or off to one side? I was thinking it might have came off of a 71 or earlier Sport, but that Sport emblem had two studs, not three. I'm thinking a dealer added emblem as well. That sucks!

The three holes are near the center and mostly inline. I wonder why Ames doesn't list one for a 72 and they told me it doesn't have one.
I guess I have to fill them anyway and repaint. The Pontiac emblem I have has four studs and not in a line.

TJ Mine also has the 4 holes (emblem missing) 72 Lemans T41 But if you decide to get rid of the emblem let me know. I've been looking

Each model year lemans in 70, 71, 72 had its own emblem. 70 was longest and read “PONTIAC. 71 read “LeMans” and was the smallest of them. 72 Read ”Pontiac”. All three would have “sport” on rh corner if equipped with sport option

72 convertibles did not have the "sport" on the decklid or anywhere else

Agree, no Sport on the deck lid on '72, all '72 LeMans converts were "Sports".

there are also two different versions of the "PONTIAC" emblem used on '71 & '72 A-bodies as well as Venturas, for a few years. Both emblems are identical appearance wise, except for the retaining pin placement. Have a good assortment of both in nice used shape, as well as NOS for my '71's. Need one, I can send pics.
