Great story, real Pontiac people, these Glasco's. Im surprised that none of the originals exsists. You would think someone may have saved one.

The story suggests the cars were special-ordered, but I always believed they were simply RPO 400 Tempests dolled up with a new identity. Which version is closer to the truth?

Love that car Paul!

Diego, I agree with your assessment that these Tempests were RPO 400 cars that had the same engine availability when the GT-37's came on-line in March/April of 1970. I don't think they were Pontiac's 'COPO' car by any stretch, assuming that Knafel ordered/offered these cars late in the model year. If they were '69/early '70 build cars, well then that may be a different story. Another controversy is if 400 auto GT-37's were YS GTO motors or the XV small valve 400-4bbl motors. I still have never seen proof of a real YS 400 GTO motor in any late non-GTO A-body (actual car, build sheet, AMA docs, etc.). No disagreement with the WT 400's being installed.

Despite all that, Paul's Magnum tribute is one nice (and fast) Tempest and does the Pontiac world proud at the Pure Stocks!

Good looking car!:)

Stunning color combo!

I assume it's not a A body standard 70 color? What color is it?

'ol Pinion head 02-28-2016 01:43 PM

Bermuda blue (code 24) is regular production color, just don't see it a lot in '70 as Atoll blue was so popular. Bermuda blue has more blue in it than '71's Adriatic blue...my favorite colors, ESP with blue interior.

Great looking and performing car, hope to be lined up next to it one of these days. Agree with Dennis on the #13's, every 4 bbl auto '70 non GTO A body have ran across has had the XV 400 with small valve 16's.

God that is beautiful! Love the cloth bench seat and low brow steering wheel.

Judge273 03-02-2016 08:48 AM

I missed that part in the article. I needed to reread and see its original paint as well as interior too. What a great candidate for this car!

Sweeter and can't wait to see it someday...
