Ram IV head engine question
 

We're putting fresh gaskets on a Ram IV engine. It was originally built with ARP head bolts, which are being replaced with original style replacement head bolts. In the bolt kit, we got two short bolts with 3/8 studs coming out of the head. We have two longer bolts with the 3/8 studs also.

I know the two short bolts with studs go on the driver's side and hold the exhaust heat shields in place. One of the long bolts with a stud goes on the front driver's side of the head and is used to connect the ground wire from the battery.

Where does the last bolt with a 3/8 stud go? Based on pictures we have of other Ram IV cars, it doesn't go on the driver's side rear or the passenger side rear. I also don't think it goes on the center hole on the passenger side.

Can anyone help us out. We're putting the heads on tomorrow.

Must be working on a '69 or 70 RA4 GTO or a 70 RA4 Trans Am.

Any of the above will have the only studded 4" bolt @ #1 exhaust port for the battery cable ground.
Of course two short studded bolts for the exhaust preheater shroud.

69 Bird RA4 engines will have a short studded bolt behind #2 exhaust port for the battery cable ground. All 6 of the tall head bolt locations at the exhaust ports will take a 4" head bolt, not a studded bolt.

'71-72 455 HO & 73-74 SD automatic code engines, will have an extra studded long bolt on pass side head between 4-6 exhaust. This studded bolt was there in case factory AC was ordered. AC was not avail on 4spd SD engines, & typically the 4-6 exhaust spot only had the 4" bolt.
