Prayers for all of our mates in Australia

Has anyone heard from any of our mates in Australia?

Been watching the news for days about how bad things are and am wondering what we can do for them?

We are having a hell of a time.
Lives lost , hundreds of homes lost.
We have not had rains for what seems like years.
Small towns are running out of water, farmers have no food for cattle and crops have failed.
Tomorrow is a big day coming, with temperatures in some states to hit 45 c.,with strong winds.
Smoke is that thick in places visibility down to 50mts.

Pray for rain,
I live north of Sydney, and have been surrounded by bushfires for 3 months now.

The army and navy have been working to evacuate holiday makers from coastal beaches which have been surrounded by fire.
I hear on the news we had some fire fighters from the USA arrive downunder, thank you.
I will try to keep our Pontiac brother' s up to date in the next couple of days

Rain prayer sent. Hang in there!

Old Goat 67 01-02-2020 06:21 PM

We are in it together mate!

I'm hoping we send some help from the USA.
What you guys are having makes a hurricane seem like child's play.

American's have been helping us for years fighting our bushfires.

We have Elvis, the life saving Erickson sky crane water bomber , we rent it along with aircraft .

Over new year, 30 plus lives lost, 280 homes destroyed

Thank you for your thoughts. And as Aussieville has mentioned, yes there are people from all over helping us and it is deeply appreciated.
I do not know if it will work for you guys but anybody wanting to know the scale of this thing ,try downloading the n.s.w rural fire service "fires near me" app. Zoom out to get the whole of Australia in the frame and let it refresh. Could take a few minutes as its very busy.
Note that aussie land mass is pretty similar to USA .
East coast from victoria to Queensland border is around 1500 kilometres.
Zoom in on the individual fire icons and it will show areas burnt out.
Tomorrow is looking to be a very bad day.
Stay alert people and have a escape plan.

We live in one of the suburbs of Melbourne so not directly affected but can see & smell smoke from hundreds of miles away. The below photos may give you some perspective of the mess we are in. Sorry but Tasmania got cropped out and they have fires as well.

Yes Sydney built a plant 10 years ago for the last drought then it rained, it has been turned on now.

Just to get a scale on how big the fires in Victoria are, over 900,000 Hectares have been burnt. In ACRES, that's over 2.25 MILLION acres.

NSW has lost 4 million hectares. That's 9.9 million acres.

Kangaroo Island (part of South Australia) has lost 190,000 hectares. Or half a Million acres.

1500 homes burnt.

Worse is apparently (so far) 28 lives have been lost.

And predictions are that half a BILLION animals, mostly native animals but plenty of cattle, sheep, horses cats and dogs have also perished.

VERY GRATEFUL for the US firefighters on the way and I have heard that possibly up to 600 English fire fighters may also come over. We need all the help we can. This a cataclysmic event here.

I understand that a bunch of Canucks are down there with more on the way. We're always happy to help our Australian friends, especially after they came up here to help with the devastating Ft. McMurray fire. I wish that we could send some rain.

Ozzmann 01-05-2020 09:25 PM

The scary part, is that we are only halfway thru the normal fire season !

MYGOAT 01-06-2020 02:49 AM

We live a few hundred miles away from the nearest bushfire but this is the quantity of smoke haze that lingers in the air around our place.
Just realised the irony of the last picture. These were taken by my wife at our railway station overpass.

Dang Tony.

That's badder than Los Angeles ever was.

Torquewar 01-06-2020 09:25 AM

I watch the news and try to get the latest updates and it’ saddens me . Being half a world away I wish I could do something, feel terrible for your country’s loss in so many different ways. The scope and size of the devastation is unreal.
If my FD would let me go I would be there helping those crews....we are thinking of you, stay strong.
