Drivers Side Rear View Mirror Installation
Does anyone have the instruction sheet and/or template for installing the 1965 Tempest GTO STANDARD Drivers side Door Mirror, GM part number 9770283. I know it could be installed at a couple different places either in front of, or just behind the vent window, but I'm interested in what GM recommended. If you have it could you PM it to me I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks very much, Todd |
Think I do, will check.

That would be great Bob, thanks.

Please share this info if it is the same for a '64 model.

Have this one for 64, should be the same for 65. Can make copies if anyone wants the real deal, cover postage and copying.
|
Bob, I would love a copy. I'll pay you something for it, but can drop by your shop so no need for postage. When might you be around?

Bob, am I to understand that the template you show us is what the Pontiac dealers
got to install optional mirrors and that having a mirror on the passenger side door was correct from dealers and not the GM factory? |
No passenger side mirrors on the door from GM or the dealers. I tried using the driver's side mirror on the right side, but it will not adjust nearly enough to be functional. I would be interested if you found something that will work.

Dealer installed on both sides in 64-65.

OMT, you were always going so fast you didn't need rv mirrors on either side. BTW, Happy, very belated, B Day.

BlueSugar, this template was from a NOS mirror I had many years ago.

I used those mounting instructions, but the mirror won't adjust enough to be usable. I tried. If anyone has been able to make it work, please tell me how. I now have a spare (new) mirror. Maybe my problem is that my mirrors are not NOS. My original one is long gone. |

The pictures from both of my '64's show the factory mounting holes for the driver's side mirror. The passenger side would be the same dimensions, which is what I did on my cars. This thread brings back memories of my original '64 GTO that I bought in '64. It had no outside mirror--too much wind resistance at the drag strip---lol!! When I was 22 years old, no big deal, as it was easy to twist around to look to the side and behind. Age does change things!! |
When I had my car painted, we placed the mirror everywhere from the front fender to the middle of the door (passenger side). There was no location where it could be adjusted to be usable.

Just looking at this pic and it looks like from the factory they were a little farther back than what the template would suggest? |
