72lemans front clip on a 72 elcamino???

Has anyone ever put a 72 lemans clip on a 72 elco?, i know that there both "A" bodys and the doors need to be modified, but i got the spare parts, and a POS elco that might get a pontiac....

anyone ever done somethin like this?

I saw one in HPP but can't remember the year. Looked sweet and had the Poncho under the hood and I think they even used the dash. I' ll try to find the article.

Back in the early eighties I purchases a 1964 Chevelle 300 2 door wagon that already had a 65 Lemans front end and doors. Was really a great looking combo. The only real problem was the crease in the lemans doors did not line up with the Chevelle body line. Other than that everything was a direct bolt on.

i know there are going to be a few things i need,
i dont have a core support, or a bumper. or any of the grille
but i got all the sheet metal,
Always wanted to do that one day, but i may just off the parts so i can buy a tunnel ram for my 400
but that would be a cool combo eah?

Here is a 76 Grand Am / El Camino set up on a ebay item 4577455693. I hope it sold for alot more.

In the mid eightys in NJ I saw a 70-72 Lemans / El Camino. The doors and 1/4's were very modified and this was done at back when the car was new. I think the owner either owned the dealership or a body shop but he had an old photo of the car in front of a dealer lot. Car look great but I havn't been able to locate it again. I think in mid eighty he was trying to sell it for $6500 to steep for me at the time.

this is the 72 your looking for. The one I saw had the quarters done and it made a huge difference in the look

Even the Grand Am-camino looks like crap if you have an eye for details- like the fact that the fender lips look nowhere near similar, front-to-rear...
While the 1972-front one looks pretty good through the doors, the rear quarters again kill it.
The ONLY way that this would look right, is if someone took the time to modify the rear quarters so that the body line is maintained. That would take some bodyworking skill, and some money, as that one that was done back in the '70's did...

yea, i think TJH is right.. wouldnt look good unless the rear is totally changed also.
too much time and money that can be put to use elsewhere!
was worth a thought tho!!

thanks to all
you all saved me alot of time n money!!!

i should throw a BBQ

To do one of these Pontiac "el caminos" you would be best to use 2 dr sedan doors with the curved window post from the el camino. Then an old wagon to use the quarters and part of the rear door skins as the new quarters and what ever else you would need. El Caminos were based on Chevelle wagons so just transfer the parts from a junker wagon to the 'camino body. Alot of work though.

Hey rustedgoat,

I enjoyed those links to "the other caminos." A few of those car looked better than the Chevys. A '70 Buick GSX camino....thats is cool.

I liked the Grand National version El Camino. Complete with GN drivetrain. Im not an elco fan but that looks pretty cool.
