1965 Ram Air
 

Hello, on a 1965 Freemont built GTO tri-power with California emissions, was there a special ram air pan made to accommodate the (3) vent hoses to the carburetors, or did they merely eliminate the hoses and plug the breather inlet on the driver side and install the standard vent cap on the right side? Thank you in advance for any and all help, John

There are more that are much more knowledgeable than I, but o my knowledge not special pan to accomodate for A.I.R. equiped cars. Of the Ram Air cars I have seen, I do not recall any euipped with A.I.R.

Since the ram air was an option, probably no different pan made. Very interesting question!!!

In 1965 California stepped up to the first emissions requirements.
In 1964, Positive Crankcase Ventilation systems were being used on 64 GTOs
vs Road Draft Tubes to remove the corrosive fumes from the crankcase.

Sometime in the 1965/1966 time frame, the system was redesigned to eliminate the open breather set-up on the valve covers and install the Closed Crankcase Ventilation system. Some 1966 Tri-Powers got those systems in California.

Not sure if the parts were in place in model year 1965 in California. and Ram Air was brand new on Pontiacs.
The first home built Ram Air Steel Trays were done by Royal Pontiac on their cars.

To the best of my knowledge, California emissions standards to promote jobs took effect with the 1966 models, which obviously would have occurred in 1965.
