aluminum heads such as edelbrock

Hi

i'm curious, i assume the stock chrome pontiac valve covers do not fit on any of the kre, edelbrock, speedpro, etc manufacture heads even with thick gaskets?

never seen anyone run them...

I have a set on some E heads on a new motor! Clear HS rockers fine with a thick gasket.

Same with the KRE's.

With KRE heads from SD Performance and 1.65 Crower stainless rocker arms, I was getting a very light tap and kiss marks on my reproduction chrome covers with the thickest gasket. Ended up adding a 3/8" cover spacer and thin rubber gaskets and problem resolved.

I wonder if your repro covers are shorter then OEM?

Does your motor run longer push rods?

As the others have stated... OE replacement covers will work. This is KRE heads, full roller valve train. Spacer and thick gasket was used.

I have never had to use a spacer with the aftermarket 69-70 type covers.Just use the 5/16 thick gaskets. That is with 600 plus lift and 1.65 H&S roller rockers.FWIW,Tom

Valve covers looked the same as OEM but I did not measure them or compare side to side.

Pushrods are 9.150".

It wasn't all the rockers that touched, just one at each end of the head.

Butler sells various thickness valve cover gaskets including the 5/16 that is mentioned above and a 3/8. A 3/8 thick gasket is pretty thick and in most cases would eliminate the need for a spacer.

Tom where are these covers from ...Ames or...and part number if possible..

I am going to be using those covers also. I have Edelbrocks, 9.050" pushrods, PRW stainless rockers and .600" lift. I will use either thicker gaskets or spacers, what ever is needed. I want to keep a "stock" looking appearance.
