Comp Cams evolution lifters

I was watching roadkill garage and they used some new hydraulic roller lifters. They are made in house by comp. I checked and see they make them for Pontiac. Anyone hear anything good or bad about them?

I'm not seeing that claim in your link.

At 4:40-ish in the video, they say "when we get them in"... In other words, they're buying the cartridge from an outside supplier.

Pretty sure that "cartridge" is an OEM lifter from a Toyota/Honda/Kia/Renault/whatever, that they've built an "Ironman" suit of armor for, that happens to fit certain other engine families.

But hey, I've been wrong before.

Formulajones 05-11-2023 07:15 AM

The cartridge is made by a guy in southern cal for comp, I forget his name (Shafer maybe?)

Ask Tom S he knows a lot about it and is using a set in a Pontiac.

They've been out for a while now and from what I've seen so far they seem to be a great lifter. The part I like is if there is ever a ticker problem you can just swap the cartridge.

The cartridge is made by a Edelbrock owned company. Was not told its name. Will be ordering a set soon.Tom

Oh so that's changed?

"Not sure if they have shipped any yet? They look like the old Shaver lifters made in SoCal but with the insert.Tom"

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're trying to say here? I'd like to know more about the company owned by Edelbrock if possible.

Ron Shaver is the name.

That said, that does not mean the situation is the same today. I posted it for the connection to Ron.

I installed a set a month ago and they adjusted well and were very quiet running. I was impressed with them.

Edelbrock makes sense, Somebody with the vision, logistics and capital would have the ability to fill a big market gap, once trust is earned through a good product cash can be made

Hydraulic rollers were once the savior from flat tappets but they themselves became a sketchy joke

Thanks Tom, crazy how fast this stuff is changing.

I built a motor with a set last year. So far it has ran for about 40 minutes on the test stand, and the lifters work as they should, no noise. The motor should be in the car soon.

I bought a set of the CC Evolution HR lifters while the price is still reasonable, plus I had a 10% coupon for Summit Racing so I got them for $660 shipped. I have two cars with HRs and one is a "ticker" so it can’t hurt to have a spare set on the shelf. Here are a few pics with measurements.

no guarantees in this hobby. you pay your money and you take your chances.

grivera 07-01-2023 11:33 AM

I can't argue there and I'm not banking on a guarantee. The Evolution lifters have gotten good feedback though.

no i agree. my newer-style 857's are a little noisy when hot and if the positive feedback on the evolution lifters continues i will give them a shot.

I got mine and I also bought a pair of the replacement cartridges.Im thinking all their Evolution hyd roller lifters now all use the same cartridge. If so it is a brilliant plan.Tom
