Hood repair project

I thought I'd post a few pics of my last metal project on this car. The hood is quite nice on the top side and 90% of the bottom ... but looks like it was stood up nose down for years before I got it. So the bracing along the front on either side of the latch hole is pretty bad.
In this pic I've cut a piece of 22 ga the approximate right size with some to spare to cut off .. then Cleco clamped it to the rusted section ... used quite a few because I need it fastened well enough to bend over the top edge. https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...1&d=1652430374 This photo shows the patch after the top edge was bent to match the original metal. https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...2&d=1652430380 After the top was bent I cut the bottom off .. cutting through both the patch and the metal beneath. https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...4&d=1652430403 This photos shows all the trimming done and with the cut-off lying there on top. https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...5&d=1652430410 |

This photo shows the rusted piece being replaced ... still attached by a few stray threads.
https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...6&d=1652430886 Testing fitting the patch https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...7&d=1652430891 Tacked in place with the left seam done and the Cleco holes welded up. https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...8&d=1652430897 Bottom seam done all the way across. Still a lot of work to do, lot of pin holes to weld up, lots of other small sections to replace. Upper seam will be a bit more difficult because it's harder to reach with the various grinding tools. Good technique for doing any similar area like rockers etc. Used a Lincoln with .025 Harris wire, CO2/Argon mix. Was tempted to use TIG and silicon/bronze but too much contamination from dirty back side on the metal. https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...9&d=1652430906 |

Almost done with this section. Had to order some different abrasives to finish it.
