Hi there! My name is John and I am a LONG time member of the "other" OHC forum. Just stumbled across this wonderful place and though I would join up!

I have a '67 Firebird (#4404) which was born with a 1bbl and 2 speed auto. It's funny, I was looking for a decent GM F-body for years and passed up on some good deals. When I found my car it was an Ebay auction that happened to be 10 minutes away. I offered a cash price after the reserve wasn't met and he accepted. I remember thinking "but it's a six!" with some disappointment, but now it's my favorite part of the car.

It's almost all completely stock, base coupe, originally Montreax Blue. Only options are power steering and console. It ran fine for the first 5 years of ownership and I always had plans to convert to sprint trim, I seemed to collect everything I needed for the swap. Then 3 years ago it started running rough. Did a compression check and found one cylinder down. Pulled the head and discovered that a ring had broken and eroded a little groove in the piston and cylinder wall, argh!

Many moons later, and more dollars, my rebuild is almost complete! I had to go 040 over on the pistons. All new reciprocating mass with original crank. E grind cam with '66 4 bbl head, mated to a CPT 200R4. Only major changes from stock are new aluminum radiator and Pertronix kit.

Oh, and I had a few things chromed and polished....

TLDR; New Firebird guy, likes shiny things!

Thanks for reading,
John

200R4

Hey John, I'm new to this forum but it looks like we are on the same path, me being a lot further behind you. I have a 66 Tempest wagon with a 1bbl OHC6 and a two speed. My engine is running good at the moment so I'm looking into do the 200R4 swap. Did you do it yourself? How did you handle the TV cable bracket geometry?

Nice looking Cammer! Welcome.

Hi Mike. Yes I did all the work myself, except machining and bottom end assembly. The TV bracket was something I sourced from another member on the other OHC forum. He had already engineered one for his car, also a Firebird, and sold some copies in a kit form. It included the TV cable and instructions. I've attached a picture, all I have at the moment, digging around my files. If you like I can remove things and/or get better pics. :noidea:

Cheers!
John

Thanks but you don't have to go thru the trouble. I wouldn't mind however being put in touch with that guy so that I might be able to purchase the same kit off him.
I've been going around and around on whether I'm going to do it myself or have a pro do it.
One of THE things that was making me lean towards having a pro do it was I wasn't sure I could get that bracket right by myself.

John, Glad you finally came over.
YUKUs last change was it for me.
Way to much great info lost on that site over the years due to their nonsense.
It was good while it lasted. This is the #1 Pontiac site across the models and Years hands down.

Cheers

Welcome welcome welcome, beautiful Firebird............and I've seen one of those OHCs before.............in my 66 Tempest.

I'm on my second one so there is a strange attachment to them........some wonder why. I said you wouldn't understand...................

Beautiful rebuild...........

I'm not sure if he's around anymore, really nice guy named Keith. When he sold me the kit I went to visit and he kinda sold me all the rest of his cammer stuff too, like boxes of bolts and such. He said he pulled the motor from his car and was running a V8. Again this was more than a year ago.

I managed to find his website:

Shoot him an email and perhaps he can help?

Good Luck!
John

I installed a cable for my TH350 conversion on my '68 Firebird. I'll try to get some pictures of the bracket tomorrow & post them for you.

This gave me a great excuse for pulling the bird out of the garage. Only the third time I have started the "NEW" engine up. I got as close as I could -w- the phone. Hope these help you. I got a Edelbrock 8036 throttle cable bracket & flipped it sideways drilled the brackets V8 mounting holes out to fit the cables that go to the tranny & carb. Painted it black & off we go...

forgot to mention you have to drill new mounting holes to fit the OHC intake hole positions....I just noticed the last 3 pictures are upside down. (sorry about that)
