Camshaft lift irregularities

I figured something was up when I couldn't properly adjust the hydraulic lifters on my 1966 LeMans 326 factory HO. I just checked the lobe lift and one is .041 less than the others. Looks like I'll be getting a new cam and lifters. The engine was rebuilt about 1500 miles ago, not by me but the PO had it done. It had a new cam but I'm not sure about the lifters. The cam that's in it sounds healthier than most so I would like the same set up if not too expensive. What should I expect to pay for a new cam and lifters and any suggestions as to brand and specs. Thanks.

I would first pull your oil filter and cut it open to see how much trash might be in it.If it OK then a cam change might work.If a lot of trash a rebuild might be in your future.Tom

You need to determine what cam is currently in there, and what it's specs are, before looking for something else. Think about what you did/didn't like about that cam, and then use that as a reference point to select the next cam.

Good news for me. I rechecked the lift twice more and came up with respectable numbers. The gauge must have slipped to give me an inaccurate reading. So far I've dodged the bullet.
