FUTURE COLLECTIBLES

Just for conversation sake, what late model Pontiacs do you think may be future collectibles. Say 1987 up to the end of Pontiac

89 Turbo TA
99 30th Anniversary TA

One could make a case for the G8 and the Solstice.

If it like it has been for the last 40 years, it will be the luxury or performance model of the kid's first Pontiac.

The kid that in 1964 had a 6 cylinder Tempest today restores a 1964 GTO, Same is true with other makes. The kid with the 6 cylinder or base V-8 Mustang restores a Boss of the same year.

In addition to many of the cars already listed - the Bonneville SSEI. I had a '92 and it was really an impressive car to drive. Good looks, excellent performance (3.8L supercharged engine) and extremely fun to drive.

It’s a 2002 WS6 Convertible T/A with a 4L60E overdrive automatic transmission.

Every WS6 came equipped with Ram Air.

Exactly. and the Bonneville 3800 SC as mentioned above is a great car properly equipped. I miss our 05 Grand Prix Gt. Fast fun car to drive. The G8's will be in this group as well. For a kid that had a G6 LOL

It will be interesting to see how GTO’s and G8’s survive. Parts are a pain to find. There just weren’t that many made

Chief of the 60's 12-25-2020 09:01 PM

Should be but probably never will.

The 1989 and 1990 AWD Pontiac 6000. The only AWD "car" Pontiac ever made. The car was only a few hundred dollars less than the top of the line Bonneville.

Future collectible Pontiacs will be first cars of that generation just like today, or low production models with high option content, and top powertrains. No different than today. A few that come to mind have been posted, Top pics to me would be the Solstice GXP coupe, Top Firebird models, GXP Grand Prix. 1988 Fiero GT, 84 Indy model. It's a safe bet all those will be worth more than they cost new in 20 more years. Notice I didn't include the reborn GTO. I think they will have some collector value, but they were expensive when new and they are a good used car buy right now. I see fair examples all the time in the 10-12K range. A great performance value, but future collectible? Bit of a gamble IMO. The power of wanting that "first car" back again can't be overlooked. Otherwise, how can anyone explain the mid second generation F body craze happening right now?
