Borgeson Steering Box Brass Fittings

Morning Guys, I am installing the Borgeson steering box today. You have to use brass inserts for the hose connections. Is there a trick to getting these inserted right so they don't leak. I don't have a lot of specialty tools. Thank you!

There is a specific tool for this:

This will keep the the tool centered and prevent the seat from cocking at an angle when driving it in.. You want to drive the seats in straight without damaging the machined sealing surface. Try them first, sometimes they fit tightly, other times you can press them in by hand. Depending on how tightly they fit, you might be able to to tap them in using just a wood dowel as the driver. |

First, test fit the brass fittings. I have the same box and they just dropped right in. They were a loose fit in the holes. I made the tool but ended up not needing it.

Thanks will do

I needed those adapters when I was running a third gen steering box and they dropped in. Relative to the pitman arm issue, I have always separated the pitman from the drag link first then pulled the pitman off prior to removing the box. I then install the box, then the pitman, then reattach the drag link.
You may have to separate drivers side tie rod as well but I don't remember as I have a puller that makes quick work of all of the tapered joint stuff. |
You either have to remove the pitman from the steering link or undue everything you did putting the gear on and pivot it up to get it in the pitman

Ok, back in business. I had to take the idler and the other end of pitman arm off.
I have the brass fittings in. The just fell in the holes. Not sure why Borgeson says they have to be tapped in. Wondering, can I just torque down the hoses as normal with the brass fittings. |
Yes, just tighten the hoses as normal. The brass adapters just get squeezed between the hoses and box.
