Gentlemen -

Could I get some opinions on the center console in this car:

Based on what you can see does it look correct and/or complete?

Thanks in advance -

K

I believe these are correct for '63:

The first pic is not a 63 console IMO,maybe a latter year.Tom

The shift lever itself doesn't look right either for a console car.

Console and shifter is incorrect. I am also not sure about those seat belt retractors. I cannot say on that though as I never owned an early GP with them.

The first one in post 1 and the one in post 5 is a '65 or '66 you will see them in 2+2 cars of those years.

Thanks guys -

Agree with the other posters. It's a later model console; looks to be a 65 or so. The 63 that I owned did not have the lock-out on the shifter. Mine was a plain, thin round shaft shifter with the round ball but no lock-out.

TeeTopZ 04-17-2018 10:55 PM

Definitely not a 63 console or shifter.

Jerry, mine has the non lockout shifter as well. I think both were available, not sure what determined which one you got

From parts book.

Thank you.

I'd be interested to know which of those parts are common with the automatic cars.

The portion forward of the bin is obviously different, and the bin lids are different. I wonder if the bin itself is common.

Here are a couple of AT consoles

There is also a short one that may have been intended for bucket seats and column shift (either 3 sp or AT).

My parts book is a 66 so that is as far as I can go.

A '63 Grand Prix with a column shift? I don't think I've ever seen that before.

Me neither.Tom

I looked at a 64 GP once and discovered it was a three speed stick on the column.

Chief of the 60's 04-19-2018 09:45 AM

I do not know why but I have come across quite a few '64 GP's with 3 speeds. They were all floor shift, but 3 speeds none the less. Much more than 4 speeds. Pontiac must have had a special or something going on in '64.

BOB VIDAN 04-19-2018 10:46 AM

Used to be, maybe still is, a very nice dark blue 64 GP running around this area that was 3 speed stick on the column. Never have seen another.

Chief of the 60's 04-19-2018 11:00 AM

Although odd, it does not surprise me that much. These were still in the days when "three on the tree" was popular and was also very popular amongst many drag racers.

Don't know why this parts book doesn't show anything for older. But notice that even for 65-66 group 4.004 does not exclude any model series from usage of the 3 sp floor shift. GP may have been excluded in some other listing but not here. And the column shift listings for 63-64 don't seem to care what model you get either.
