AI Images - Fun or Scary?

3 Attachment(s)
OK, I might be procrastinating and looking for a time-wasting diversion so I find MSFT has an "AI" image creator.

I gave it a try, asking "create an image of a Palisade Green 1970 Pontiac LeMans being attacked by Tyrannosaurs".

Then I asked it to create an image of the same car being chased by police.

It did better than I expected, actually...other than looking like a Pontiac Cutlass..

Let's see yours! Here's a link to the tool:

I then tried "1970 GTO crossing the Atlantic Ocean on a life raft". Pretty good if I ignore the serial killer inside:

This is crazy.

Here's a "1970 GTO being airlifted by helicopter over the North Pole".

Yes, the car is wrong but the tool is pretty amazing.

Looks like a GTO/Cutlass/Chevelle/'69 Firebird hybrid.

Don't forget Skylark..that last one especially, around the headlights.

"AI" has a lot more programing to do before it ever happens with any accuracy.
Like I've said before,it's a big scam cause really new technology is DOA.

It all looks so "Cartoonish"

I'm old so I dont know about these technologies. Its amazing though. On web there was a multiple guess question about the car pictured. It was supposed to be a 70 GTO but had similar looks to yours pictured.

This is not politics, just an accessible intro to some powerful software technology. As soon as I said "AI" I knew the thread could go into the toilet so maybe this doesn't belong on PY.

I simply found the ability to create artistic images from a random collection of thoughts to be fascinating and for me, fun. Clearly this demo tool is not intended to be accurate, but more about gathering images from the web, and combining them in a creative way. And it does this FAST. To me, it's like Photoshop on steroids with a massive collection of images to start from.

Yesterday, there was a thread on PY that mentioned secret squirrels in the bowl of a Quadrajet. So I input "secret squirrel in a 4-barrel carburetor" and the tool generated this image:

The tool promotes artistic interpretation and styles. Today I input "abandoned Pontiac Trans Am on the waterfront in the style of a watercolor". Here is what it created in about a minute of crunching somewhere out in the cloud. Freaking amazing:

It is amazing, but at what point or maybe rather where are the youth of today going to find reality.
We all know that those cars are not accurate GTO’s, LeMans’ or Trans Am. But will they and these are just some old cars.
I’m worried that soon nothing is going to be accurate on the internet or it will be really hard to know what is a true representation of something and what is not.

Remember all those times someone comes up to talk about your car and starts with “My Brother/Friend/Dad had one of these and by the time he is finish you know the car could never have been exactly as he describes because there are too many things wrong with what he is saying. Well soon it will be your car is wrong because the headlight for that year are different and GTO’s have chrome front bumpers(well I guess one or two do but..)

I think the tech is cool but I don’t see a positive use for it. Just fantasy and waste time at best, or create confusion and misinformation at worst.

To you question at the top, I say Scary.

Any program that is written is only as good as the people that write it .
These are probly millennials with 0 car knowledge.
BTW; the most overused word in "tech" today is;
AMAZING
lol

Moderators - I apologize for my poor judgment using charged terms in my title.

Please change the title to "Fun Tool for Creative Art Expression" or something less incendiary.

MSFT Creator has no more to do with cars than any other image processing/design program.

I just thought it was fun and impressively powerful.

If a camshaft is alone on a desert island with no PY forum members within miles, is it still wrong for every Pontiac?

That's a "camshaft"./
Not even close.
Proving my point.

I’m happy you posted this! We’ve been having a blast playing with it since I saw your post last night.

I think the AI aspect is interesting. It’s basically a computer browsing web images with what could be correct or incorrect titles anyways. It’s fun to see what it comes up with. The web in general as well as every other form of media is often inaccurate to say the least (I think back to the Counting Cars episode where that dude was buying a “ ‘68 Judge”, and he’s supposedly a car guy lol).

Again, thanks for posting this. Our kid was laughing so hard when we had it cross his ‘72 Plymouth Scamp with a killer whale (no idea how the ElCamino on top was added). We also did another of his car in the correct color winning a race driven by a Smurf… lol Thanks!

I see it as scary. Not so much for me personally but, for every aspiring artist out there. Not only will they not be able to get a job or make a living doing what they enjoy but, every image that the AI creates is copyrighted the moment its finished and if anyone uses if for anything remotely involving revenue or advertising they will be receiving an invoice. Just like Getty Images does to anyone who uses one of their 10 billion photos.

242177P 12-09-2023 08:32 PM

AI is scary. Just look at how many times they've had to pull the plug on various programs. Tay wasn't designed to be scary, but it most certainly didn't turn out like they expected it to. So unattended is bad, but what about when factions oversee it's development? Ask ChatGPT about it's connection to Peter Thiel and it will lie to you. Why?

PunchT37 12-09-2023 08:43 PM

AI will always be a danger.

kingbuzzo 12-10-2023 12:27 AM

I use this technology every day at work now...it's amazing and saves me so much time researching.

I can see the writing on the wall however and my job will eventually be redundant but hopefully not before I'm ready to leave...lol

It is not accurate yet but it is getting better and faster all the time.

Shiny 12-10-2023 12:29 AM

I like the Orcamobile and Smurf..nice!

Keep in mind fellows.
Google - Social media platforms generate much of their revenue through
selling targeted advertising based on algorithmically mining every second of their unwilling and unwitting users' lives.
If ai is developed to a point Google search becomes a waste of time,or unnecessary, bye bye Google.
They won't let that happen .

BTW;
That "Bonneville" looks like a Torino. lol
