Well actually it isn’t a brand new intake, they are re-releasing the old dual quad P65. Good or bad it is showing there is interest in our Pontiac community.

Any performacne upgrades or is this just a nostalgic re-release?

Mr_GTO 12-18-2001 08:06 PM

Not many people buy the Offy intake, wonder what makes them think people will buy an old obsolete design other than the nostalgic look.

I still can't phathom why they have not take the Victor intake and added EFI to it like the BBC EFI systems. There is an actual increase in popularity in EFI systems now a days and it would be the only mass produced Pontiac EFI system available.

Skip Fix 12-18-2001 08:37 PM

They just came out with a new BBC oval port EFI Victor and a Rect. port to follow. Hopefully a Pontiac wil not be far behind!

WARPed 12-21-2001 10:05 PM

As I see it they are just dusting off the old molds, but nonetheless it is showing that they must feel there is enough of us out there.

Is it a dual Spreadbore intake?

WARPed 12-28-2001 09:27 AM

No. It will only accept square bore carbs

This is from Edelbrock’s web site:

Pontiac Dual Quad P-65 Manifolds
The new Pontiac dual-quad manifold is a direct reproduction of the original Edelbrock Pontiac P-65 manifold delivering classic Edelbrock performance from off-idle to 5500 rpm. Bosses at the rear of the manifold accommodate brake booster, accessory bracket and throttle linkage. The flanges match the ports on the Edelbrock Performer RPM Pontiac heads for proven performance. Not for HEI distributors.

This is good news! What are the prices?

Skip Fix 12-29-2001 06:27 PM

I guess its from a 409 being my first car I just like the looks of multi carbs, esp quads! You can probabaly get as much HP out of a single 4 and good intake, in fact Hot Rod just had an articel using a moderately built SBC.

Most dual quads though can only fit AFB carbs not enough spacing for Holleys end to end, but they can go on sideways, the way I had them on my '09.

77TA 12-30-2001 10:05 PM

too bad they could not make it HEI friendl.

tom s 12-30-2001 10:36 PM

they could have,it just would not have worked as well! They could put the front carb in front of the front ports and the rear carb between the front and rear ports!Or they could have made it high enough to clear the dist. oh wait what about hood clearance. What about a small body HEI?

Bob Dillon 12-31-2001 12:29 AM

Obviously, it's a nostalgia piece, so AFBs would be perfect. Besides, they're cheap new and easy to work on.

Now if someone would jump on the Bridgeport and make one of those Stree Hemi-style carb pans and top for it, wouldn't that look cool?

77TA 12-31-2001 11:42 PM

yeah I guess if your gonna go through all the hoops to put dual Quads on it you should go ahead and get cool looking MSD Dist or something instead of an old ugly HEI anyway !!!

455Dave 01-01-2002 12:25 AM

Bob's on the money. I've always thought of making a custom pan for a 2x4 setup that would mate up with a T/A shaker. The kewel factor would be worth any loss in performance to me.

sscherin 01-01-2002 05:15 PM

Car Craft (or was it Hot Rod?) recently did a test of a wide range of intakes.. the old low rise dual plane with 500cfm carters did quite well vs a Victor intake with a Holley HP carb.
only a slight loss in peak HP but it made more torque down low.

This was done on a chebby but I'm sure the basic's are close.

Only the Dyno can tell.

74redgto 03-05-2002 11:24 PM

I have called Edelbrock a number of times recently, according to the tech's I have spoken to they aren't even close to offering a pontiac efi manifold. I want to take my 74 GTO to efi without spending $4000 dollars.
