2021 Pontiac Powered Class Racing
Well, 2020 was a VERY strange year, in a lot of ways.
Don't know what the coming year will bring. I'm sorry I had to report that several Pontiac racers jumped ship. :( But, there are still a few of the faithful out there. And, with lots of plague vaccine coming, maybe some things will get back to normal & racing will be in full swing by Summer. NHRA has posted race schedules. Don't know if any of these race dates will have to be changed, or not. https://www.nhra.com/lucas-oil-divis...eries-schedule https://www.nhra.com/lucas-oil-divis...ional-schedule https://www.nhra.com/schedule/2021 |
I’ll start the NHRA Div 2 in February South Georgia. Looking forward to getting after it again.

Good Luck to Kevin MacNicol this weekend in Orlando!
Good luck to all the Pontiac guys headed that way! I’ve been working day and night trying to get my new trailer together and motor back (new rings and bearings after 500+ passes) together trying to get ready for the up coming season. |

Baby Gators
In today's Stock qualifying, Lindsey Brand was #16, with a 10.63, in the baby blue '73 SD455 Bird.
http://classracer.com/classforum/sho...2&postcount=27 The class run-offs are suppose to be on NHRA TV, beginning Fri at 8:30 am Eastern time. https://www.nhra.tv/ I tried to sign up for the free feed, but couldn't. Said my Email address, which I'd just used to sign up, was not in their system. So, I suppose you must be an NHRA member before you can even sign up for the feed. Anyhow, I assume that for NHRA members and those who join, and sign up, the free feed is supposed to be available Fri morn. Don't have anything yet on the SS, S/G, or S/ST classes. |
Baby Gators
In Q-2, Lindsey ran a 10.62, which was #21 @ .930 under. Allen Hollingsworth was #61 @ .773 under, in his D-port 455 '73 Bird.
https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop Didn't recognize any SS cars as being Pontiac powered. But, with he GT rules, you can never be sure. |

Jimmy was mister trip zip in one of his time runs Also due to weather forecast Tomorrow I hear they are going to be running 1st round of at least super street that I know of at the moment. You can keep up with today’s action by watching live timing https://www.nhra.com/results/2021/lu...04/live-timing |
Jimmy and Kevin on to RD2! Great driving fellas!
|
I was at the track yesterday and saw both Kevin's and Jimmy's cars in the pits but didn't see either one make a pass, and then round 2 came after I had to leave. Rain will probably wipe out today's schedule so wishing them the best on Sunday.

Baby Gators
Fri, Lindsey finished #32, with a 10.608. Allen was #64.
https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop Here's the 1st round S/ST details from DRC. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop As mentioned, today's weather is not lookin too good. https://weather.com/weather/hourbyho...0dec3d482870fc |
Rain all day today. We go again tomorrow and Super Street will run last. Stock will be early
|
Baby Gators
According to NHRA live timing, Kevin MacNicol survived at least 3 rounds of S/ST.
https://www.nhra.com/results/2021/lu...s/super-street It also shows that Allen Hollingsworth lost in round 3 of Stock. https://www.nhra.com/results/2021/lu...ock-eliminator I don't trust live timing, because I've seen so many mistakes there. So, if anybody has any updated race info, please post it. |

Yeah, that's definitely the quickest '74 Ventura Stocker, ever. I assume it's the ONLY one to ever run in the 10's. Guessing it's the best ET ever, for the car. That's nearly as quick as Bill Rink's Super Stock '74 GTO. But hey, Bill may be holding back a little, to avoid a hp factor increase. Never did find out for sure why Brad quit running the shaker hood last year. Just assume it was for convenience. Don't know if there is a performance or weight advantage. Anybody know ?
AND, this may be the biggest Stock/SS purse ever. https://speedsport.com/drag-racing/o...r-march-19-21/ http://www.goracesgmp.com/home.htm https://www.facebook.com/goracesgmp/ This FB page has ALL the race details. https://www.facebook.com/SouthernSportsmanShowdown Just a quick glance at the Q-sheet showed Monte Howard driving a '78 T/A Super Stocker. I assume it's the same car he drove several years back, when Ken Shawver still owned it. I assume it is now owned by Jack Good. As I've probably said, that may be the winningest Pontiac powered Super Stocker. It has been quick for a long time. IIRC, it won class @ Indy several times, & qualified high on the list many times. Pretty sure I posted the info, & some of the pics that Monte gave me on the car, on the Super Stock thread. |

Live Feed:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjUCuxHu0b0 Brad Koivisto ran a 10.821, with his '74 Ventura, good enuff for the #4 position today. Michael Brand is listed at #21, with a 10.529, in his SD455 powered '73 Bird. Chris Stephenson is also on the Stock Q-list, with his '68 Bird. Monte Howard is again on the SS Q-list, with a '78 Bird. https://www.facebook.com/SouthernSpo...47260980609415 Lots of Stock/SS action at this race. Also lots of money to be won. There's also an NMCA race in Fla. There are a couple of Pontiacs in the Nostalgia Super Stock category. Mike Davis topped this Q-sheet, running in the A/NSS class. There's also a 455 powered '63 Tempest on the list, running B/NSS, driven by Jeff Bourcier. http://classracer.com/classforum/sho...9&postcount=36 |
Lucas Oil Series @ Vegas
There are several Pontiacs at this race. Brad Burton had the Pontiac that was highest on the Q-list, @ #10. Others include John & Ryan Schloe, C.W. Hoefer, & Tommy Brown.
https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r=100#indextop Brad was also #19 in SS, with the Burton GT/GA '91 bird. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r=100#indextop Looks like every Pontiac Stocker survived the 1st round. Brad won his heads-up D/SA race. :) https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r=100#indextop |
