I have these two oil pumps. The bottom one or the one with the cast four bolt cover is new. I got it in a batch of parts. Can anyone ID it ? The stainless tag says 54.0.

I believe that is an M54D Melling 60 pound pump.

Thanks. Sounds like we figured it out. So good pump for my 455.

The other pump it also a Melling M54D.

I know that because I bought it new and locked the pickup in place with that 10-32 socket head cap screw using red Loctite.

It worked good for 30k miles on that 455 I sold you and it’s ready for more.

I don’t think Melling even offers the standard 40 psi pump anymore.

Agree, I have several M54D"S" oil pumps (60 psi) on the shelf (I just looked) and they are identical to Bart's 10-32 socket head cap screw modded pump.
(minus the Modification) lol.

As far back as I can remember all the Melling M54 pumps were 60psi. They used to supply them with a lighter spring if you wanted to install it. Not sure what they are selling or supplying now.

The pick-up tube needs drilled/tapped for a machine screw to keep it from falling out. At some point they went to "softer" material for the pick-ups and they will fall out if you don't take extra steps to keep them in place......
