and 68-72 GTO.

Post up your dimensions.

Helping a guy figure out how much room he needs front to back in a new garage he is building.
I told him make that sucker 30 feet deep. He thinks 25 feet is deep enough.

Slightly over 17 feet long for the 1966 GTO.
That would give him 8 feet or 4 feet in front and 4 feet in back when vehicle was centered.
Might be interesting to get a engine over the grill removing it over the radiator area with the
rear bumper close to the garage door.

OK for just parking the car I guess. Any 67 to 72 info???

Is he actually going to be pulling or installing engines? If not, 24 feet should give him ample space for most tasks. Of course, the garage size may be limited by his lot size or local zoning. For that matter, I've done an engine R&R on my 1961 Bonneville in my 24 foot garage, although I did have to push it back a few feet so the rear end hung out the door.

Stuart is on the money. Mine is 24x24 with 9' wide doors which is as big as I could go considering building restriction lines and distance from the house for a detached garage. It is definitely smaller than I would have liked but manageable. I have done an engine R&R with the car backed in on jackstands and it wasn't too bad. I have done thousands of foundations for many different builders and you would be shocked how small some of their garages are.(20x20 with either 2 8' doors or 1 16' door and not big enough for an SUV).

I just finished having this same discussion with a friend who is getting ready to build a garage to hold several cars. A garage 25 ft. deep is workable, but 30 ft will be much better. If you have a workbench up against the back wall you will have enough space to grab a tool, turn around and walk up to the car. You will also be able to walk to the back of the car and get something out of the trunk with the garage door closed. If you back the car into the garage you can pull the engine without being half outside like you would with a 25 ft depth. Go with the 30 ft. If you can.

Mine is 24' deep and I have a workbench on the inside wall, Still have room to move around with a '67. R&R engines would be a problem especially with a gas curb. I'd go bigger if it's in the design stage.

I had my garage built based on dimensions of my longest vehicle plus 4 feet in front and 2 feet in back. It has worked out well. One thing to keep in mind is the dimension is the outside length and width. For example, my 26' deep garage actually measures 25' inside with 2X6 walls front and back.

It's never enough! :) I have a 30'x30' (Daily driver's and storage) attached, 30'x40' (Detached shop with GTO, lift, etc.), and a 30'x54' pole barn at my property. Guess what, all full! LOL

That's the problem...if you have a 24 foot garage, it will be full. If you have a 30 foot garage, it will also be full. ;)

Mine was 32 feet deep and 24 feet wide. I added 10 feet for 42 feet deep and kept the width and now have a 4 car shop instead of a 2 car shop, with a workbench and a lift. Never under-build.

I had an extension built on my existing residential garage with a 14' Wide x 18' long slab, framed and bricked to match the house. Took out the back wall of the existing garage which had a 5' work area inside the garage so I have 24' of depth. My 66 GTO is 206 1/2" OAL so it fits fine, but as others have said, working on it has proved to be cumbersome.

If I ever have another shot, 20' x 30' min would be the starting point.

30’ X 50’ is a nice size garage if you have two vehicles. Mine is 24’ X 24’; this is why my Cat is STILL at my BIL’s and wifey’s convertibles are sitting outside in the weather.
