Misaligned rockers

2 Attachment(s)
Any ideas on how to correct a misaligned roller rocker? I have Comp Cam Ford 302 Ultra Pro Magnum 1.6 roller rockers mounted on a ARP 7/16" BB Chevy stud. I am also using ARP split adjustable pushrod guide plates and 5/16" Smith Brother .080" wall pushrods going thru a 1/2" hole in the 389 heads I can`t get enough adjustment out of the guide plates and I am also afraid the pushrod will start rubbing on the side of the hole in the head if I elongate the hole in the plate for more adjustment. Man am I confused. Something is out of wack!

why a Ford rocker instead of a Pontiac?Tom

Had to go with taller valves to accommodate the stronger valve springs for the roller cam. So taller stem brings tip closer to rocker stud. The Ford rocker dimensions fits perfectly except for misalignment.

What problems did you run into?

Are those adjustable guide plates?

I have never used them before….but aren’t you supposed to adjust them so the rocker is aligned to the valve and then tack weld them together when in the desired position?

The Ford rockers are shorter than the Pontiac. You will only get correct geometry with the F rockers on a P engine if you use 0.100-0.200" longer valves.

I misread your post initially, sorry…can you open up the hole in the guide plate where the rocker stud passes through to get the little bit more of adjustability?

Have you checked your alignment with the guide plates removed? It should let you know if you can get the rocker lined up without rubbing the head. If that seems OK, I’d either mod the guide plates or try a different set.

Good luck!
