What size front tires?

Wondering what everyone is running for front tires on 15" rims. I am putting 275/60 on the back and was thinking 215/70 on the front. Just not sure how it will look with 28" diameter on the back and 26.5 in the front.

I run 275-60-15 in the rear and 235-60-15 in the front on my '72 A-body.

215/70R15 on the front is not too far from the 275/60 rears. 215/70 on a 6 inch wheel, or 225/70 on a 7 inch wheel.

I got a huge deal on some front tires for my TA, years ago. I goofed on the size, got 215/60 tires looks one of those hydraulic jumping contest cars...

Kinda depends on what you expect from the vehicle.

Skinny front tires are popular for drag-racing. Hateful for cornering and braking.

What's your priority?

Hint: If someone gets into a collision with me, and their front tires are undersized, they'll have to explain to the Judge how that's safe.

I have a 275/60r15 and 235/60r15 ombination on my GTO. Drives nice for a street car.

You should mention what model/year car you're talking about.

What's the minimum tread section width on the front that y'all consider safe?

The Champ 01-14-2023 12:31 PM

FWIW - a 215/70/15 is actually almost 27" tall (26.9").

No rubbing issues either on the front or back with that set up? Stock wheels?

On the cars that I run 275/60-15's on the back, I typically run either a 205/75-15 or a 225/70-15. The 205's are 27.1 inches tall and the 225's are 27.4 inches tall. Just depends on which rim width I'm running on that particular car.

Dad likes to run the M/T 28x6 radial front runners, which has turned out to be an excellent tire for skinny front runner. He runs the same 275/60 tire size on the back that I typically use.

I drive my Trans Am around corners so I paired my rear 275/60 R15s with 245/60 R15s in front. Looks nice to me. Doesn’t rub with stock wheels.

I think you have chosen a perfect tire combo front and rear.

How wide are your rims Qball ?

PunchT37 01-14-2023 11:45 PM

I run 225/70/15`s on front and 275/60 on back. Mostly level. I like to keep the headers off the ground.;)

235/60R15 fronts on 7" no-offset rims on my '67 (with 275/60R15 Nitto drag radials on the rear). If I make a right hand turn into a driveway a little too hard while braking the tire will barely rub the dirt off the tread by contacting the inner wheel well center portion. As you can see in the picture, the front is stock height or a little less. Dips, bumps, or anything else without braking and the tires won't rub. I had 205/70R15's and it just seemed under-tired in front.
