My guess is they are from US Mag…

Thanks - i'll look into this...

1965gp 08-12-2022 12:10 PM

Damn those are awesome

kingbuzzo 08-12-2022 12:18 PM

drool - they did a really good job on this one and it's going to mecham...I wonder how she will fare

Personally I'd like a little more meat on them and somehow not going to mini-tubs but probably day dreaming as I'm broke af just getting her running again...lol

Doesnt look horrible but just not a fan of the all rim,,ultra low profile tires on classic cars. To me they dont look good on trucks either. My tundra has 18" and there was a optional 20" and to me the 18s looks better,,,need some sidewall. I went to 15s on my 70 gto and it took me awhile to get used to those. I wouldnt kick that TA to the curb though.

kingbuzzo 08-12-2022 12:23 PM

I'm the same...need more tire however my 15's look too dated now...need something in the middle...still swoon over fat in the back tho but I'm a dinosaur lol

HIGHLY Recommend putting in Struts, del a lum bearings,
Or Coil overs to SPEED up the suspension as the sidewalls are non existant, and the suspension, slowed in hardened OLD rubber will make your car ride like a 3 Ton Truck..
But maybe ya just want to look at it..

You figure it would make that much of a difference for 17s?

I would love to replace these tired leafs with something else but I can't see that happening anytime soon :(

Scarebird 08-12-2022 03:27 PM

Composite leafs are very nice - light but will lighten your wallet 5-7 bills

Dwdrummr1 08-12-2022 05:20 PM

Im pretty sure those are US Mags Trans Am wheels. I just got their Bandit wheels in 18x8 and 18x9 for my '68 Bird and they look to be of great quality. I am in the middle of transitioning to an entire Ridtech coilover setup so we will see how it all comes together. The car had always been more of a drag car but hopefully this will make it more road friendly as there arent many dragstrips where I live now.

US Mag U109 Bandits, 17x8

That squishy feeling it had with 14's and 15's is gone.

the wheels in the 1st pic look good & they do have their place on builds like these... but once you go to forged vs cast they are way too pricey for most people including me... $1370/wheel!

jinkies...what would be the difference between re-arching mine vs these except weight?

Prolly still wheel hop and body roll like before?

That's what I'm looking for - amazing!

Do you have a profile shot? I wonder if white letters would still work on that profile and what tire you rollin?

Thanks

65madgoat 09-09-2022 06:18 PM

These indeed are US Mags but not the $200 cast "bandit" rims from China (this bandit style is also made in a 2 or 3 piece).

The rims on the 1971 trans am are legit 2 or 3 piece US Mags called their "trans am" wheel that runs well over $1,000 per rim.

The "bandit" version has a bigger window between the spokes - the "trans am" version is more honest to the original Rallye II wheel openings.

No, wheel hop is almost nil - but I do not do stuff that encourages it often either. Weight is about a 1/4 of steel.

Sorry for the delay. I am Vogue 235-55R17's

Very happy with them - made in Chicago since 1914.
