'66 Tri-Power with Vacuum Linkage, Automatic

I'm building a '66 Tri-Power for an automatic GTO. I have all the components, but do not know which bracket is used on the center carb throttle lever--the bracket that actuates the kickdown switch.. As you know, there were many different styles used through the years. I believe the '66's used the same bracket as '64 & '65, but I want this to be correct.

If anyone has a photo of a correct '66 setup, I'd appreciate your sharing. Here ar the carbs after assembly, before mounting the vacuum switch, kickdown switch, vacuum diaphram, etc. I will post pictures after this is all in place.

This question has been answered before for the 3x2’s with automatic.

1964-1965 the automatic kick down switch was under the hood mounted to a bracket off the LH side of center throttle plate.

1966 was inside under the dash just above the accelerator pedal.

You are correct about moving the kickdown switch under the dash, but you were off by one year. That Change was made in 1967, to both the big Pontiacs & Tempests & GTO’s. I have had a few ‘66 automatic Tri-Powers in my shop. They all had the switch mounted on a bracket held down by the center carb hold down nuts.

That would look awesome on an OHC!

1966 GTO Tri-Power A/T has the downshift control switch #9783241 (#1242101) inside under the dash just above the accelerator pedal.

1965-66 Pontiac Tri-Power A/T has the downshift control switch #9781141 (#9785545) on a bracket mounted to the center carb.

Really, I don’t even know why I bother trying to help you with your questions pertaining to a 1966 GTO Tri-power with automatic.

Waste of my time!
