Varying reports. Boston PD quoted as saying 2 dead and 23 injured. Ball bearing found at the site. Secondary devices that were unexploded being found.

Now 12 confirmed dead and many injured. :(

Edit: bomb explodes at JFK library in Dorchester.

Stuart 04-15-2013 05:20 PM

I'd wait on speculation....the news reports coming in are all over the place. The director of the JFK library has been quoted saying they just had a fire in a mechanical room, unrelated to whatever happened downtown.

Reports are that a Saudi national is under guard at a hospital and is considered a suspect.

It was just announced that any explosion was a result of the aforementioned fire.

WTF. This is so sad.

Simple Man 04-15-2013 05:48 PM

My prayers go out for the dead and injured.

David Holmberg 04-15-2013 05:52 PM

Was not a bomb at the library, just a incendiary device or a plain fire. According to Boston's Police Chief Ed Davis.

2 confirmed dead. 50+ injured. 6 for amputations. Lots of gory pics that I wish I hadn't looked at.

I've been on that part of road many many times. Sad day. Glad to know one of my friends finished and wasn't hurt.

My God, I feel like I live in a war zone anymore. Living in a town still recovering from the horror of 12/14. There was a large contingent running in Boston today in memory of those lost. Thank goodness they were all OK.

Another friend that lives in Boston had finished running the race, but was very close to one of the explosions. He was OK but said it was a very grim scene. :(

Somebody said there was ball bearings laying all over or that is what came from the explosion. I don't know how true that is.

I've heard the same thing.

PonchoV8 04-15-2013 07:18 PM

They should've banned assault weapons already.

Ball bearings are commonly used in EIDs.

On the video of the first explosion, there was an old gentleman runner that fell down right at the finish line but it was a couple seconds after the exp. I wonder if he may have slipped on a ball bearing.

PonchoV8 04-15-2013 10:17 PM

I'm pretty sure he's just exhausted and lucky to be upright in the first place.

I saw him too - looks like the blast went right through the snow fencing at knee level & took him out. There was a still photo on one of the CT stations this morning showing two police officers carrying him out of the street.

I am continually struck, more so lately, that we are failing in our task to pass a better world on to the generations who are coming behind us.
