Clevite MS667HX main bearings

I'm rebuilding a 455 SD for a customer and the new Ohio crank I bought for it is fat, and on the high side spec wise I'm looking for an extra clearance bearing for the 3.25 mains and the only one I see are the Clevite MS667HX. As with everything else these days no one has any. Do any of you have a set, or know off a place that has some in stock? I checked with Butler, KRE, Summit, and Clevite. All out

Can you polish the crank down some to spec?

Jeg’s is showing a set.

Weird, I looked earlier today and they didn't show any. Had to be ordered. I'll check again

No, it won't take material off consistently across the journal.

No businesses have them.

Does anybody have any in their collection of parts they would be willing to turn loose of? MS667HX Clevite

good crank shop can cut .001 off a crank

Do you have any Bearings with a gray brake in coating that?
If you fine scotch brite that off with the aid of a very light oil that could give you a added .0015”.

Many builders do this .

I may go that route if I have to. Problem is we don't have any great crank grinders in the area

That would make it difficult..... Is the housing bore to the max?

Gary H 07-03-2021 05:00 PM

The crank is .0002 under the max. I calculated if we align hone the block, and put it on the max, I will have .0018 clearance. That's using the Sealed Power bearings which I actually measured. In my experience Sealed Power bearings measure thinner than Clevites. I don't feel comfortable with .0018 on an original 455 SD engine/car I'm shooting for .0023 -.0028. The pistons for it are going to take 10 weeks so I guess I'll see if Clevite gets the extra clearance bearings in stock between now and then. If not, I may take it to a crank grinder in town and see what he can do. Scary!
