Ignition breaking up under load

I have a MSD Ready-To-Run and Blaster 2 coil. The RTR is about three years old and has 3-4k miles on it.

The ignition is breaking up under heavy acceleration at the bottom of second. It's fine under normal driving or even heavy acceleration in high gear.

I replaced the coil, plugs, and wires. The cap and rotor look good. So, I think I've isolated the problem to the module.

I recently tack welded part of the exhaust, and I forgot to disconnect the battery. I did not disconnect the distributor. I don't think there was a problem before this. Did I damage the module?

I have an email into MSD tech, but wanted to get an opinion here.

Are we talking about the RPM plug-in modules or the MSD ignition box in general?

I would jump right over to a points type distributor if you have one to pop in before possibly wasting money on a new module, and jerking around time wise with other trouble shooting steps!

The RTR has a "built in" module. No ignition box.

I have the original HEI. I thought about trying that, but I'd have to jerry rig the wiring. MSD said they could turn it around in 15 days from receipt.

Caps can look brand new and still not function above idle.

Sounds like classic fuel delivery problem to me.

MSD just called, and the module is bad. I suspect welding the exhaust w/o disconnecting the distributor did it. Just want to pass it on my expensive life lessons!

Kudos to MSD for the quick turnaround and reasonable repair charges.
