Fan shroud repair, what type of plastic
My 70 fan shroud has a large crack. Does anyone know the type of plastic? Trying to make the best repair.

Glad you found one!
I'm still curious about the material as I find the GM manufacturing technology to be amazing. Things like the SMC headers, endura noses, nodular cast irons, etc. are historically as significant to me as the cars themselves. As I recall (suspect), the shroud is reinforced with long strands of a fiber. The shape doesn't make sense to me for injection molding, but I was around some big machines for molding office machine covers so it's possible. I'm guessing it was formed from a flat sheet, sprayed or layed up on a mold, or something similar. I'd love to hear how these were made and whether it was GM or sourced from suppliers. Mike |
Not familiar with this shroud mentioned, but nearly every other GM was polypropylene and has cast P.P. on it. Only special glues will work, sometimes plastic welding, but not pretty.
