Back up light switch 4 - speed
1 Attachment(s)
I saw this on a 72 Lemans for a back up light. I need to do something like this, I don't much like the rod. Has anyone ever done this before and what parts do you need?

This may not be the right place, but I have a new piece that I never used. I bought it for use on my Hurst Comp Plus shifter, I do not believe it is not year specific, $40 shipped (if I can find it) PM me if interested.

The '68 Pontiac A-body & '68 Firebird factory Hurst shifters had a very similar steel piece with the hole it to accept a backup light switch.
In '69, the backup light switch went up on top of the column. I've always thought it odd the manual trans columns in '68 did not have backup light switches, as that provision was used on many '68 big car columns. |

1968 was the last year that Pontiac mounted the switch underneath the car. Starting in '69, it was just simpler to mount it inside; on top of the column, since the steering column now contained a key.

How was the wire from the 1968 Tempest switch routed?

Across the firewall, there is a "T" shaped black plastic plug-in approx above the bellhousing in front of the firewall, just behind the distributor.

If your looking to simplify it hurst makes a back up light switch that bolts onto the shifter itself.
