Can anybody tell me specifics on this center section?

I have a center section from a '57 to '64 Pontiac/Olds rear end. It is a 3.08 open center. But, I haven't been able to identify what specifically it came from though. I've been told early '60s Pontiac. The casting number appears to be 548817. It says F24 which I assume means 64? I haven't been able to find this casting number anywhere though.

Also, I'm trying to decide what to do with it. Someday, if I can scrape together the dough I'd like to put one of these rearends together for my old Chevy hot rod. Since the only piece I would be using is the casting, would I be better off to sell this center and find one set up like I want? Or should I hang on to it?

I'd appreciate any help. Thanks

According to Pete McCarthy's book, the casting number correlates to a 1962 production.
