Front Parking Brake Cable Question

1 Attachment(s)
Hello,

'65 GTO with Willwood disc brakes.

Please see the attached photo. I am going to repair or replace my front parking brake cable as the cable appears to be partially seized. Also, the item circled in red, is not secured to the body. It moves up and down when I actuate the parking brake pedal.

Does anyone have a photo of how this is secured? Is there a clip?

Thank you.

The circled clip has pulled through the hole. The cable is installed from the underside/backside. The body of the clip towards the hole should be a bigger diameter than the hole. As you pull through, the 'fingers' compress going through the hole and spring back out once they are through the hole. The remaining part of the clip will/should prevent the rest of the clip from going through, locking the cable sheath in place. Then the ferrule end of the cable is installed in the bracket.
To remove the cable you have to remove the cable from the bracket and compress the fingers as you push through the hole. You can use a small diameter hose clamp to compress the fingers until the end of the fingers are through the hole then remove the clamp.

I'm not looking at my 67 right now but if it's the same as 65 I believe there is another clip on the other end of that cable where it goes through the frame. That is what prevents the cable from pulling up as in your pic.

Is this the item you are referring to?

Here is what the cable looked like on my '66. There was no separate "clip" to speak of on my car. The wider part that is pressed up against the body of the car is a rubber seal.

This is what the parts of the complete system looks like. 1 goes through the floor pan toe board. 2 & 3 go through the brake backing plates. They are held in by the 'fingers'. 4 and the other two are held in holes in the frame or brackets on the frame by the hairpin clips. https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...1&d=1649453456

wbnapier ...doesn't look familiar to me . I believe my set up looks like z germans. It looks like yours is missing whatever is supposed to keep it from pulling through the floor.

I think Napier's confusing the other side of the cable. that's held to the frame with the hairpin clip on the inner frame side where the cable goes out to meet the intermediate cable connecting the wheel cables. the side going up into the body is as described with a captured washer and rubber seal that's wider than the hole. most likely your washer split in half and fell off allowing the body of the cable to come up through the hole.

The flange that locks the cable to the floor is missing, so it pulls through the hole in the floor. Need a new cable. Available through our host PN-r170s
