'79 Grand Prix 4-speed time capsule car

I don't believe I've ever seen this one surface before. 850 actual miles. It even looks like the original battery.
I haven't done any more than watch the video but judging by the way this guy presents it, he uses language like it's going to be for sale. I'd guess he's a Ford guy anyway.
The thing is show room new and he acts like it's surprising that the lights all work, etc... :rolleyes:

Thanks for posting that, it reminds me of the last new car my mother bought, also a 79 4-speed GP, black with a tan interior, but hers had a black landau top, A/C, and rally wheels. Hers also had a gold pin stripe. She had a love/hate relationship with the car. Hated it was so slow, loved the manual transmission, hated the way the Saginaw 4-speed shifted, loved the MPG compared to the 76 455 powered GP she traded in. Hated the smaller trunk ect... She did drive it for 130,000 miles until it rusted out in the late 1980's. And she replaced it with a used low mileage 76 GP that was her last car.

Interesting the owner doesn't know that the GM Blue bolts of the era mean they are Metric! Black bolts are SAE. Those cars had a mixture of both. I remember working on the car replacing things like belts, motor mounts & the clutch. It seemed that anything bolted to the front or rear face of the engine used metric bolts, but the motor mount bolts were still SAE. It drove me nuts.

Thaks for posting....that is a rare and odd combo. 4 speed without are is closer to 23 produced. 230 something total 4 speeds.
I've heard the the 4 speed came with posii and a tach. This is the 1st one I've seen theat didn't have a tach. If you wanted the clock, you would have it located above the glovebox in the Grand Prix script.

I always look for aluminum rad supports, especially in the 78-79 Grand Prix. This one is steel...Easiest way to tell is that the aluminum supports didnt have the hood realease cable hold down tab.
I would guess they wouldnt last long if they were aluminum.

Toob bad this isnt a two tone landau with T-tops.....

This car also has the space saver spare, which is fairly rare.

Beautiful car, shame it’s a base model without options and the colour combo could be better. No rotary clock above the glove box on non ac cars.

Frankly, had been in position to buy something like that new, would have ordered a base model. Less clutter under the hood and more space to work on the engine.
Have only seen a handful of non A/C '78 - '86 A/G bodies in southwestern yards that did not have the omnipresent A/C, perhaps seven or eight examples in over twenty five years of yarding. The parts are hard to sell, also to "G" body people so pretty much stopped trying. Am guessing there were a lot more non A/C cars, in the upper midwest or canada, so the heater only systems aren't really that rare.

That sold for record G-body money. I never saw one go for even close to that price. 35k

I prefer the Grand Ams and the GP without the landeau.

I ran into one of those about 20 years ago, considered buying it to swap out the 301 with a 455.

It was black with tan interior, had a/c and several options. It had the skinny snowflakes, I think they were 14". It still had original paint and was rust-free, but extremely ragged out. It was one owner, but the interior was ragged and the body had a ton of dings and dents. It would have been a neat car to toy with, but it was tired. Price was cheap, mainly because the clutch was slipping badly.
