Ignition breaking up under load
I have a MSD Ready-To-Run and Blaster 2 coil. The RTR is about three years old and has 3-4k miles on it.
The ignition is breaking up under heavy acceleration at the bottom of second. It's fine under normal driving or even heavy acceleration in high gear. I replaced the coil, plugs, and wires. The cap and rotor look good. So, I think I've isolated the problem to the module. I recently tack welded part of the exhaust, and I forgot to disconnect the battery. I did not disconnect the distributor. I don't think there was a problem before this. Did I damage the module? I have an email into MSD tech, but wanted to get an opinion here. |
Are we talking about the RPM plug-in modules or the MSD ignition box in general?

I would jump right over to a points type distributor if you have one to pop in before possibly wasting money on a new module, and jerking around time wise with other trouble shooting steps!

The RTR has a "built in" module. No ignition box.
I have the original HEI. I thought about trying that, but I'd have to jerry rig the wiring. MSD said they could turn it around in 15 days from receipt. |

Sounds like classic fuel delivery problem to me.

MSD just called, and the module is bad. I suspect welding the exhaust w/o disconnecting the distributor did it. Just want to pass it on my expensive life lessons!
Kudos to MSD for the quick turnaround and reasonable repair charges. |
