I was glass beading a drivers door yesterday, when the pinholes and bondo started flying off. At the end of it the lower front corner inside structure is gone. The corresponding outside skin will need a patch. But with the inside gone is it worth it to fix or replace the whole door? I don't think there is a patch panel I can buy. I would spend a few hours reproducing all those angles to get it right. Plus the skin is bad in both lower corners.
I have fixed doors like this in the past, but time and money was an issue. Getting older and maybe wiser. Your thoughts? |
On my trans ams I think I have as much time in getting the doors straight as the rest of the car combined. And that was with no rust. Looks like you can get a new door shell for less than 5 hundys. If it were me I would be going that route. Prob. be easier to make a new one fit right then spend a lot of time getting the old one patched up. Sell the old one to someone with lots of time and patience.

Yeah at $500 to replace with a subpar aftermarket door I think I am welding mine up. If the whole bottom was gone or both corners were completely shot I might replace but since I have fixed worse before I will fix this one.

You may be able to find a donor door for inner structure areas you need. I scrapped an extra door I had I got with my 72 vert two years ago. It had a big dent in middle of skin and a small amount of rust. I didn't think it was worth saving for anyone to fix. But, parts of it would've helped you.
