thermostat housing front stud
 

On the 67 GTO and other years, there is a stud that secures the housing to the 4bbl intake. Then the rear alternator bracket is attached to it. (power steering cars) Is it just a regular nut that holds the bracket in place, or is it a castle nut. Or castle nut and washer.
I know this is "Bill Ryder" type of question, but my memory fails me, and I dont see any references to it in manuals etc.
I'm assuming if it is a castle nut, then used is my only option?

Was the stud used in assembly before the engine was painted?

So then was the stud painted engine color and not the nut due to the alternator bracket being assembled post engine paint?

Andre, Castle but is correct not painted.

Okay great, I wasn't imagining this. I know the stud is painted.. I have a few originals, but of the castle nuts I have, none seem to fit. Joe- I couldn't get that link to work.

update... I figured it must have been inline tube that you were referring to. I searched their catalog. Silly me.. I only knew them as castle nuts, not slotted nuts. Found they sell them on ebay.. pricey devils, but oh well.. I think the old water pump/timing chain cover assembly has them, but suspect those are too small.

Intake water outlet (thermostat housing) bolts, nuts.

Both the 4bbl. and Tri-Power outlets utilized a 3/8” bolt front and rear and “each” received the front bolt that was threaded at both ends.

They came this way, with or without PS.
If you got PS, then the alternator strap was secured with a bare slotted nut on that 3/8” stud.
No washer called for with this slotted nut. See #13 in illustration.

Both bolts came painted along with thermostat housing from factory.
