Extra set of #62 heads. Need help for me to decide what I should do with them.
 

When I bought my '69 GTO last year, the engine had been completely disassembled. I got 2 sets of #62 heads with it.
The original set that the engine came with from the factory at one time had had hardened valve seats installed in them. This was done done by a prior owner to the guy that sold me the car. Not long after he bought it, one of the heads dropped a seat. The damage done to the head and block wasn't that severe but he opted to find a virgin set of heads and he found a set that even had a date code very close. He had those gone through by a machine shop with new valves. So these heads are the ones I used for the engine build.

I'd like to sell them but I don't know if they would be desirable to anyone or not. Plus I have no idea what they would be worth to know if they are even practical to try and sell. Not much market for these locally since I live in smallish city and the big cities (Dallas, San Antonio and Austin) are all about 200 miles away from here.

Anyway, advice of any kind will be appreciated.

I would hold on to them as spares for your 69. JMHO

Thanks guys. It didn't cross my mind until now that something might damage the heads I have now that would make them need any more work than these old ones do. So aluminum didn't cross my mind either but now that it was brought up here, I guess that would be an option if something happened. My block is original numbers matching but I am doing a restomod on the car. But, I have been saving the original parts that I"m not going to use in case some future owner would want to make it original again.
One thing I don't have to worry about is dropping a valve seat. Don't have hardened seats in these replacement heads.

I guess another question which I don't know the answer to is how that boogered up area is repaired. Can any good machine shop weld that area and machine it back down? How much of a detriment to the value of these heads is that damage? It also seems that anyone (including me) that would consider using these heads would want all the hardened valve seats redone considering that one of them dropped out.

Sounds like the heads had hardened seats installed or had dropped a valve before. Was into 70s before hardened seats were stock.
