'69 rear trunk/quarter trim

Anyone know when Pontiac stopped putting the rear trim on the '69 trunk lid and adjoining quarters? I was thinking this was early production like the GTO dash emblem and trim on the quarters behind the rear wheel.

Trunk Trim

To the best of my knowledge, the GTO received that trim for the whole model year.

you may be confusing this with the deletion of the lower rocker covers on the quarters behind the back wheels that happened in a Feb TSB. however, many cases of people with convertibles that still received those trim pieces in much later builds so it's not some steadfast rule that can be documented beyond the TSB. as far as the rear trim on the lids/quarters, it was never deleted so they should be there.

I have seen quite a few cars that didn't have the trunk trim so I assumed it was a production thing like the lower rocker covers or an option. Good to know, thanks.

I’ve seen late production cars in junk yards with factory paint that did not have the trim on the edge of the trunklid. Saw several like this back in the 80’s and 90’s. It was standard on both the GTO and the LeMans (but not available on Tempest and Custom S). One thing I noticed was that they were all home plant cars.

Remember these cars are over 50 years old now and most have been restored several times. I too have seen the no trim pieces on the deck lid and quarter panels but that is not correct. Because of the age of these cars, many have been changed over the decades and claim to be original. An original paint 60's GTO is extremely hard to find. If you have one, leave it alone!! A real time machine and a invaluable source of what is and is not correct!!!

They clearly built some late 69’s without them. I think it looks lousy without that trim so I’d add them if they are missing.

Same thing for the lower rear chrome moldings between the rear wheel and the bumper. 69 GTO’s look much better with them, it slims out the look.
