BOP pilot bearing… no side shielded?

2 Attachment(s)
So after I found the 6202 bearing to be too wide (11mm), I decided to try the BOP version that states it is correct for the application. Problem is, neither side is shielded.

Putting extra high temp grease in the crank recess behind the bearing sounds disastrous . Likewise, isn’t it just asking to attract clutch dust and any dirt, reducing its’ lifespan?

Here is a pic from the website showing at least one side sealed and also a pic of the one I received with daylight showing through.

(Sorry about the pics on their sides, every post I make with pics lately seems to choose the orientation it wants for me even though they are upright on my phone!)

Thanks

I haven’t yet. I figured I’d ask the question here first to see if it’s an issue. I’ve searched plenty of pilot bearing threads and all seem to mention a seal on one side, that’s all.

I would think you would want a shield on at least 1 side. I would face the shield toward the clutch. Both sides shielded would be fine too. No shield seems like a bad idea in that environment. I would call and ask Wade what's up?

Thanks. Glad to see I’m not the only one thinking that. I’ll give him a shout tomorrow. I’m just not sold on wide open/no shield idea. Of course I ordered 2 so I’d have a backup lol. It’s stamped as a 7109, but I can’t ID who made them.

Out of curiosity I checked a BOP pilot bearing that I bought and it is shielded just as the one in the catalog photo you posted..

Thanks for checking on that. I sourced some SKF BR7109 bearings locally so I am just going that route. Single side shielded, exact dimensions as the BOP bearing, and probably the bearing manufacturer I trust most.

Nothing at all against BOP, I’ve had several other transactions with them and they’ve all been great (as well as their quality). I was only able to email today with my concerns about the seal and he said to just ship them back and we’d be all set.

I did my buddies 70 Formula and used BOP. The bearing was 1 side with cover. Tried a Napa version before that and it didn't fit, think it was listed as a metric size.

Hey guys,

We had a hard time sourcing the shielded bearings for awhile there and open was all we could get. We recently were able to source them again and will be selling them again with the shields.

I believe this will work. Timken 7109
