Hideaway Hose Kit shortage

I've got a problem arising because of the apparent shortage of headlight hose kits for the 68 GTO. I've been putting off several parts of the assembly waiting for the kit because I don't want to cover up the access to the three hole firewall grommet.

I don't want to finish installing the dash pad (AC) because access to the hose connections on the switch are way more difficult to reach with it installed (can reach right through the empty AC vent hole).

I don't want to install the parking break pedal because it makes access to the inside of the grommet almost impossible. And I don't want to move the car out of the shop without the parking brake working (added insurance in case of brake failure)

And of course the grommet gets real hard to reach with the fender installed.

So anyway ... since the kits aren't available I figured if I knew what color hoses to use and how long they need to be I could just order the individual hose and run those to the switch and through grommet and let them hang until my hose kit comes in, and then connect to already installed hoses.

Yes, a long way to ask ... the approximate lengths needed, I'm sure I can find a schematic showing the colors needed.

Thanks

BTW ... just need the lengths (approximate) of the three hoses that go to the switch. By approximate I mean .. 2' 4' etc. I can leave them way too long if necessary and trim when the times comes to hook them up to the kit.

I have an old hose set down stairs. I will get it out and measure later today.

RFCOLEMAN 05-15-2022 10:57 AM

I found the hoses from original harness. I measured and rounded up. So if I were going to order hoses to make up myself, this is what I would order.
16 ft. each of the Orange and Green stripe hose. ( 2 ) of the B146CX hideaway hose connectors, and ( 2 ) T 's .
6 ft. of the Blue stripe hose, ( 1 ) T . Or, B146CR hideaway headlight vacuum can supply hose kit.
If you wanted to cut it close, 14 ft. each of the Orange and Green hose might do it,
I hope this helps , good luck.

Thanks RF, that will help a lot.

Jeez, lots of places out of the blue hose too.

So, going to hose up the whole system with black 5/32 and add color markers until some future date when the kits are back in stock.

Does anyone know the vacuum "pin out" on the headlight switch? Which color goes to which port on the switch?

Pretty sure i have the original hose trio for dash switch to hideaway plungers. i could check. $10 plus ride.

HIS ... if you have them I'll take them for sure. Thank you sir.

Possibly this diagram might help you figure the switch pinout?

That's the diagram I have been using.

I'm sure it's not rocket science to figure out. Without having it in front of me I think there are two ports close together and one by itself ... I'd assume the lonely one is the vacuum input, can probably just hook up a pump to it and find the one that operates when in the open position and label accordingly.

Greg Reid 05-18-2022 11:58 AM

I was thinking along those same lines... Hook one line up and blow through it see which way it passes in the on position which way it passes in the off position...maybe?
On the other hand, somebody here probably knows and just hasn't seen this thread yet.

I check and have it, but here's the thing: there are two black hoses in parallel, one hose has a wide green stripe, and both hose ends have a common factory male/female rubber connector, annnnd the hoses are factory-taped to the Headlamp harness.

All the plastic harness-connector boots are nice, uncracked and includes the Fuseblock connector and a square plastic snap-fit seal (to the rad-support i think). I would prefer to sell the complete harness deal than take the hoses out of the harness. Suppose $20 plus the shipping?

it is just the hose duo, and per diagram in link above, is the long run from the disconnect near the dash switch to the disconnect before the actuators.

So a Headlamp switch hose deal (sold that switch long ago), and the hoses at the actuators (no gots) would be needed.

HIS, that's fine, whatever I can get at this point will be helpful.

I sent you a private message with my address, just let me know what the total is and I can PayPal it, or send it however you want.

Thank you sir.

Inline tube claims to have 3 sets in stock on ebay . $ 170.50 shipped. Better than doing it twice.

dataway 05-20-2022 10:19 AM

Figures ... I wait months and when I cancel my order and start doing it the hard way the parts come in, checked them a few days ago and they were still out of stock.
I'll save the money for now ... already ordered 50' of 5/32" hose so I'm off to the races so to speak.

Half-Inch Stud 05-26-2022 08:02 AM

...should arrive today. And better than new.

dataway 05-26-2022 08:30 AM

Got them, more stuff than I thought I was getting, and in very nice shape.
Thank you sir.
