153 Pontiacs at Mecum Jan, 24
Lots of nice cars. The 74 SD Formula might be my favorite, even though it's a auto and AC car.

Some really nice cars popping up for sale. Economy is slipping.
|
There are some seriously desirable cars in that bunch!

Anyone have the history of the 68 RA1 Bird?
|
I imagine it is in the RA II thread on PY. I have info from 2012 and put it in my database in 2018.
VIN - u126570 I think. Triple Black RA I  |

Looked like the original engine was still in the car, It was pretty ratty looking when i saw it. I think the brother really cleaned it up. It did run. The brother wanted 60K for the car at the time I looked at it but needed restoration. The brother wanted retail for everything he had, sometimes over retail. What days are you going to the auction? Did you have it at the Springfield IL POCI event back then? :) |

Awesome 1968 Ram Air I bird.
But one major pet peeve is BLACK wiper blades. Anybody with those on their vintage car need their man card taken away. Awful. |
[QUOTE=Dennis H.;6475085]I saw the Mecum line up and saw the 74 Formula SD, and realized that is my old car from about 30 years ago.
Oh wow...queue the re-united song My buddy has one and I'm curious what she hammers fer...so unique |
Yea it was good to see the car again, when I sold it, it was in very nice condition with only 47k on it. It went to Wisconsin, and then I never heard of or seen the car since. I had a few friends that told me they saw it at Norwalk this year.

He was real active on here for some time and then just disappeared about 10 years or so ago , it seemed like. But I remember the 68 Ram1 car he had. We tried to do a breakdown on the BHC card but it had so many options that neither BrianS nor I could get the math to go flush. The BHC (PHS) and option breakdown will be listed in the Ram Air II Roll Call thread in the 67-69 Bird section on here. Black was a Special Order on a 68 Firebird , not a standard color. Had no idea he had passed away He was cool |

Wonder why the instrument bezel on the 74 SD Formula was replaced.

Cheap looking aftermarket ebay trim rings need to go. Bird on rear spoiler shouldn't be there. Car should have been de-personalized prior going to auction. Nice car and doubt any of that will affect value. :D Here is another silver '74 SD Formula being auctioned. https://www.hagerty.com/marketplace/...89rZYwksdfEdjR |

His last post was in 2016
But after 2013 his posts were infrequent. 2018 was last time he checked in on here. Here is the equipment for the Black Ram1 Bird 259 Custom Interior - Black 347 Engine - Ram Air 358 4-Spd Man - Close Ratio 361 Safe-T-Track Rear Axle 383 Radio, Pushbutton - Man Antenna - Rear 431 Seat Belts Custom 434 Tachometer - Hood Mounted 444 Rally Gauge Cluster 453 Rally II Wheels 472 Console 481 Dual Exhausts 521 Disc Brakes - Front 524 Custom Floor Shift Knob 532 Soft Ray Glass - Windshield Only 604 Rear Seat - Folding 634 Shocks - Koni Adjustable - Front & Rear 671 Lamp - Underhood 702 Spare Tire - Conventional KM 195R x 14 White - Radial Tires Paint Code A - Starlight Black (Special Order - Extra Charge) Vinyl Top I think we were having trouble finding a factual cost of the Black Paint - and it also had a Miscellaneous Equipment Charge on the BHC. But we couldn't make the math hit flush with the Label Price. The Label Price was higher than what we could come up with - which is a better scenario than it being lower . For sure it was a Ram1 4spd 3.90 axle car. Black on Black One Helluva Car ! http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...0&d=1193426152 http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...1&d=1193426152 |
Pretty certain he verified the EUN stamp 126860 on the block
Should have VIN stamp also. Radial tires and Koni shocks were very very scarce options on 68 Birds Black paint - ultra rare also. Disc brakes were even uncommon. 25-287 = Bill Meadows Pontiac - Portland Oregon |

Is there a way to view the live auction online without a bidders pass?
EDIT I think I found it. https://www.mecum.com/auctions/kissi...024/live-feed/ now how to find the guesstimate as to when a lot comes up |
^
Saw that car yesterday. Didn't realize that a PY board member had owned it. |
$110k sale on that black 1968 Ram Air I Firebird!
https://www.mecum.com/lots/1105699/1...aa_id=524441-0 |
it closed at $100k but the fees werent free
|
Yeah 10% per side I believe. Seller walked with $90k and buyer paid $110K. Transportation costs additional.
|
House wins all around.
|
I was surprised at the percentaqge of no sales
wonder if its a indicator of market? |
Market overall is still great. But yes lots of no reserve met auctions. We just have to come to realize a lot of these cars (like their owners) are aging out and not resonating with many of today's buyers. I think there are over 200 Pontiacs up for sale at this auction. I don't think this forum has 200 diehard Pontiac members. Ha.

70 RAIII auto TA sold for 121K. It's a nice car but that seems high. Good day for the seller.

I thought same on price of that 70 RAIII

They're listing this as a Special Edition. ?????
https://www.mecum.com/lots/1110339/1...aa_id=552810-0 |
They made Gold SE (Y88 I think?)
Would need the PHS probably to tell for sure. Looks good, not all original though. :) |
There is a 79 TA 10th Ann with 13 miles predicted to bring 200-250k
That should be interesting to see the outcome. It has a couple or few odd things about it. In my thoughts I don't see it going anywhere near those numbers , but they shill stuff like this up towards the reserve so we really never know where the real money stops. Unless it does sell The 68 BlackBird did about what I expected. The 70 TA Auto/AC was no surprise if it was very correct and very professional quality. They are 6 figure cars now with the right combo's and right quality. |

I'm not saying it's a bad car at all, just not the most faithful restoration. Maybe it had some sentimental value to the buyer. |

The pinstripes don't look correct for a Y88 but they may have just missed that during the resto.
|
I DVR'd this broadcast and just got around to watching the Pontiac segment.
I see a Buccaneer Red '74 SD go for $95k. A beautiful Admiralty Blue over parchment SD went for $90k...and a '76 TA 4spd brings over $130k? The '76 was a beauty but.... worth more than a Super Duty? Not in my world. I loved the blue one. |

|
Dang...trying to find it on MotorTrend but they only have last year's...was it worth a watch anyway?
I wonder if SD's will start to come down out of the sky? |
There was another Blue 74 SD with 4spd - that only went for 66k - and was a full resto.
Seems like that car has made some appearances before and has a conflicting issue - but I can't remember the facts about it . And they rarely reveal stuff like that in the listings. The ultra low mile 79 TA-TA 4spd predicted to as much as 200-250k is listed as reserve not met at 100k.. The wallflower White 69 GTO Convertible RamIV Auto on column with hubcaps didn't do well and didn't meet reserve. That car was restored by a newer forum member , I believe from Canada. The MatadorRed 69 GTO Convertible RamIV Auto did extremely well. It has went up the last 3 times it has sold . Which surprises me a little bit. Its very very nice with all respect. Quote:
But probably shortly after our lifetimes they probably will. |
