SD Performance Flooding B.C.
Hi: If anyone on here wants to help Dave and Lisa out here is a link to a Go fund me page. I already sent Dave and Lisa $500 before they started the go fund me page.

Was wondering how they were making out, Not good out there. Been since monday the 15th since BC had a major rain storm
with flooding all over, Bridges washed out and Major landslide over major highways on the lower part of BC. Abbotsford is in a Low lying farm land area. This area has been hit hard with Major loss of Livestock and land damage. Hopefully they come out of this Devastation. Been 5 days before highways have been reopened, Military has been called in to help with relief. Winter has just started and not sure what else is next. Extreme heat over summer, forrest fires, now extreme rain. Extreme snow and cold next? |

I have been in touch with Dave over the weekend. Lisa and him are unable stay at home due to flooding in the house. I am sharing the photos and information Dave passed to me on what they are going through.
Here is a quote from one of the emails. "We got hit by another landslide, but fortunately it was on the east side of the house and didn’t effect the shop at all so very thankful for that. We had flooding in the house from the rain and the slide is right up against the house but no mud actually came in (mud is covering two windows that didn’t blow through). We aren’t staying at the house for a while. We cleared all the wet stuff out of the basement and cut the lower parts of the drywall and now have fans and dehumidifiers going to dry things out. The yard is a disaster with 50+ dump truck loads of material coming down the mountain. There’s another rain storm forecasted for next week but hopefully it won’t be too bad. I’m hoping to start pulling vehicles and trailers out of the slide next weekend to start the huge cleanup project. Going to get back to working some in the shop this week as the bills don’t stop!!" Fortunately Dave can still get to work unlike many in the area. But he is unable to ship or received any packages at present as the road to Suma is closed and may be so for some time. See the links for more information on what happened and is still ongoing. https://yaleclimateconnections.org/2...tish-columbia/ https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-59324764 There is more rain in the forecast for the next two weeks. Let's all pray they don't get hit with anymore heavy storms. And please take time to share this information on other locations to widen the circle of information to all of Dave and Lisa's friends. |
Glad I got my heads from Dave before this latest Environmental disaster.
This is the second time he has basically lost everything of value in his home or shop. Tom V. |
I HATE this!!!
Praying for Lisa and Dave!!! My heart is aching for them!!! I'm guessing this is Dave and Lisa's home town? I'm inviting them to move to Oklahoma!!! You only have to dodge a tornado, here and there, no big deal!!! |
They have not finished up with the mess they have in that area and now are gone age that with another rain storm Thursday.
Hopefully it won't be as bad as last one, cuz the area is already struggling. Still dealing with road damage and Major bridge damage on roads out of the area. |
My heart goes to you too Dave and Lisa ... All the best.
|
This was a result of another land slide not flooding. Remember the shop was wiped out last time. Either way a sad situation. I hear they are staying with one of their kids. Lower mainland BC is a total mess right now with more rain on the way.
|
Dave had said his shop is ok.. Thankfully. Just want to say Thank you for any help that has been provided. Insurance won't cover them for this type of disaster. We lost our home back in 1987 to a Tornado so I understand what it like involved in a disaster. Fortune for us Insurance covered the replacement of our home and contains. The scars left stay with you forever. My wife and I would never want to go through a disaster of any king again. I can't imagine going through it all over again like Dave and Lisa.
Thanks again. Charles |
Prayers sent. I cant imagine the psychological effects. That looks like the area that weather channels Highway Thru Hell is filmed.
|
Yes it is. Called the Coquihalla in BC
|
Just reading more about the damage and the why? Weather phenomenon called an Atmospheric River. Can have an influx of more moisture than the Amazon River. Scary.
|
17 dump truck loads hauled out of Dave and Lisa's place. Many people came in and donated time to help clean up. The shop suffered no damage and it sounds like he is back to work.
|
I have heads there, about ready to ship back to me.
3 years on this task. Jinxxed. I had drought if 500 year floods myself, moved my residence. It steals years from your life to fight these events. |
Sad to hear. Time to move before you lose more than property. Glad nobody got hurt.

Update on Lisa and Dave. From his email to me.
Heads for small cube Pontiac. techsupport@sdperformance.com Wed 12/15/2021 8:07 PM HI VC We got the sxxx kicked out of us by several more extreme rain events which forced us to abandon salvage operations and instead setup pumps to stop our house, shop and the neighbors house from flooding. Fortunately we found a ditch to the west of our property that had no standing water in it so clearly had good drainage so we ran 200-300’ of hose and pumped for 6 days straight 24 hours a day. For about 72 hours we had 3 pumps going wide open (750+ gallons a minute) none stop but by the 4th day we were able to get down to one full-time and one intermittent to keep things heading in the right direction and later that week we were able to resume salvage operations and start planning how we were going to deal with the waterflow that we are now seeing coming down the mountain. The stupid city 17 days after the slide and after all the extreme rain storms (nothing additional came down the mountain) decided our place was a danger to life so they put an evacuation order on the property which has now cost us thousands of dollars in unnecessary Geotechnical BS to have the order lifted. We hope to get all the stuff done the Geotech wants by next week but when you are dealing with sponsored equipment you have to work around the availability of that equipment as we certainly can’t afford to pay the normal going rate for all this so it’s taking a bit longer but we’re getting it done cost effectively thanks to generous friends! We’ll be ok but it’s been depressing and overwhelming dealing with it all. I have done a bit of work in the shop the last week or so but needless to say it’s hard to focus on the task at hand but I’m doing the best I can. Still haven’t had a good nights sleep since this all happened which isn’t helping me physically or mentally. Thanks for touching base! Dave Bisschop |
VCho,
Can you give use an update on how Dave and Lisa are doing? |
I saw that VCho hasn’t been active since November
|
I email, but only reply this year was March. He had a tough bout, do not know what, Covid ? Had him down a month, and the flood set him back a good 2 years with no insurance, or worker help. He said it was all on him to patch together the property.
My project is partly done, on indefinite hold I fear. |
I waited for 5 years for Dave to work thru his issues and deliver my heads.
Very happy with the heads. If I can wait that long (when a man is down on his luck, maybe a few others can too). Just saying. Tom V. |
I run a company. 2022 set me back a couple years. It's rough out there.
I am watching a quantity of beer house restaurant type businesses with super high property taxes fail. It doesn't help that our neighbor state shut down commerce for many months, and those businesses burned up any reserves they had trying to cope. |
Ive talked to him, thought emails this week. they are up and running.
Speaking of delays, I gave him my 71 HO aluminum intake to get CNC ported back in 2018 when I was in Abbottsford BC launching the new Honda Goldwing. He has assured me there is still just 1 hours of hand work left to finish it ! In fairness to him he had to weld a divider plate back in that the previous owner butchered. I already have a set of his 260 CFM CNC ported Iron heads , I knew that Dave was busy , unlucky, and overloaded with work so I had no expectations in terms of turnaround time. Right now im more bummed by the shortage of roller camshaft cores at all the cam grinders than the 4 years waiting for my intake at Dave's Peter |
Glad to hear he is up and running. The parts shortages are one thing and will eventually shake out. But a talented porting shop with a great reputation forced out of business by weather related devastation would be just terrible.
|
If I understood the trail of damage caused by the first mudslide many years prior, Dave lost his CNC program files for porting the iron heads he was performing for me. So that adds a hundred (s) hours? to run the mock ups on the mill, and begin to get your tolerances sorted out?
Any which way you break that challenge down, you can't recover that expense to re-write the files. Yeah, agree we can't be whiny, patience is the challenge our era. |
I traded some messages with Dave a little over a month ago. I won't go into what he shared, but patience is appreciated. Dave is a great guy, and is trying his best to get caught up. I'll always use his services when I can.
|
Well, I see he updated his website message
|
I've been emailing with Dave lately. Most of the mudslide has been dealt with and his place is looking better. He hasn't been taking on much new head work as getting parts is so challenging. Everything thing from castings to retainers are back ordered. (I waited 9 months to get my KRE's. They arrived 2 weeks ago! Yea!)
His youngest boy has taken an interest in head porting and has been working in the shop. Dave says he has an eye for the detail work and follows directions well. (I know we all wish our kids could that.) He has completed the engine Dyno installation and has been putting it to good use, averaging a dyno job a week. He took the camshafts off the website due to supplier issues. Please join me in wishing Dave and Lisa, as well as the rest of their family, a good 2023. |
Thanks for the post. Dave has always been there to help us. They have been through lots over the past couple of years. A big Thank you to those who have stepped forward with financial help when asked. He has definitely been a big asset to us Pontiac folks. We visited him and his family this past summer and they have done lots of work in the yard to prevent further incidents. Thanks for all your help over the years Dave.
|
Wish them well. I cant imagine the destruction. Then I watched Highway through Hell. Last year that devastating rain and washouts was something.
|
Glad to hear the good news.
Tom V. |
Wish them continued succus Glad to hear the good news.!
Jim |
Glad to hear the Pontiac arrow is pointing up for them!!

So here is some perspective of the slide. Dave sent this to me during the clean up. I believe he lost 2 or 3 parts cars and this was one of them.
|
TTT.
Here is a link on the Gofundme This is a big undertaking. Hope you can help him along. .https://gofund.me/54d2bb5c |
Steve, thanks for providing the link. I just made a donation for Dave and was shocked that Gofundme charges a 16% fee on top of the donation. I don't mind so much because Dave really needs the help but WOW.
|
Can or could we send $ directly to his address?
|
techsupport@sdperformance.com
It's been too long as far as my contact goes. Maybe someone is in the loop. |
Any chance SD Performance could come up with decals, hats or t-shirts ? Every dollar helps.

On their website, Dave posted Jan 31, this year, their situation. Not a lot new, but news. of course insurance companies will NOT overcompensate Dave and Lisa because they are such great folks.
I'm still praying for a bunch of greatness to come out of this deal, Please, Lord!!! |

Couple comments he passed on. Struggle for them, financial and marital. It's a tough thing to lose your dependable business. He works part time to supplement in the mechanical fields. He borrows space in friends shops to do his work. Got a flow bench lije his ruined one. But the 5 axis CNC mill is elusive and cannot seem to close on one.
As for the shop, he is fighting over valued land or shops and can't get a already built shop where he can afford it. I am guessing a popular retiree area. He wants to start clean, away from that bottom of the mountain spot. The payouts weren't anywhere near enough. |
He sure could use your continuous support emotionally. I mean that.
|
stevesbirds,
Is there any idea what was salvaged from Dave’s shop? I had a set of SD-455 heads there. I see in the Jan update on his site that he’s finishing jobs that were in process when the fire occurred. Just wondering if they survived. |
I recommend sending an email to Dave. But be patient it may be a week or two before he replies. We had set of HO and a set of SD heads there and they survived. So fingers crossed your's are okay too.
|
That's great to hear! Hopefully, mine are amongst the survivors! I did send a couple of emails to Dave over the past few months asking about them. I'll try sending another.
|
As he said, email. My heads will likely come through OK. If your work needs porting, that will be a hold up until more of the machine shop key tools are in place.
|
Good news from Dave! My SD-455 heads survived!
One had been ported prior to the fire. The other will hopefully be finished this year. It sounds as if he's found and purchased a CNC mill and was able to salvage all his porting programs. |
That's great news.
|
Ya Hoo!!!
