2009 "Blue Devil" ZR1 Emerges Nearly Unscathed

It started and they drove it out.... amazing. This one was sitting on the lift with the black 62 under it when they went thru the floor. Looks like it ahs a leak. My guess is the transmission or they wouldn't have kept on running the engine.

That's great news! Kudos to the rigger who went in the hole - he's got balls!
|
Rigging them through the spokes in the wheels... I don't think you'll find that in the factory manual.

I watched the video and was also wondering how they would conclude the area where the crane footprint was parked is safe? Looks very close to the hole. There are some helo drone vids from university that flew down in the hole...kind of neat. |
They also got the 40th anniversary "Ruby" out but, it didn't look as good.

I noticed a lot of premature fanfare with the Blue Devil's extrication. Pics make it look like they think they have won the war. It's gonna take several people risking their lives for several days to get the three buried cars dug out. http://corvettemuseum.smugmug.com/Ev...DSC_1804-M.jpg |
The 40th anniversary "Ruby" was the one standing on it's nose. There's another one below it that only has the left rear quarter showing. The rest of it is buried, and I don't imagine that one will be very pretty once out. That black 62 standing on it's rear bumper is a bit warped in the front end. Looks like the front end is trying to make a right turn before the rest of the car does.
Makes you wonder what the white millionth Vette is going to look like. Thats got to be under a couple tons of concrete and dirt. |

Is the museum still planning a "natural disaster" exhibit, as they stated shortly after the sink hole incident?
I've read "they will be restored" also, but that was second hand news from some forum member or two. |

Yes, it sounds like there will be an exhibit set up for a while to show the cars in their wrecked state. Yes, the cars will be restored. The newer ones by the Factory itself. The older ones by a corvette restoration shop on GM's dime. |

I can't wait to see how trashed the three buried cars are.
Restoring them is going to make for some good job security for the workers at the restoration shop. Especially if their hours are cut back to <30. |
