Stopped by the body shop yesterday, the driver patch is almost done, body guy said they may shoot a guide coat on it today. Said he should have the other side done by the end of next week, and mock the front clip up too. Nice.

EDIT: Oh yeah, all the floor patches were done, and what you can't see in the pic is the work done on the outer wheel house, its fully patched. Body guy said the driver repo outer wheelhouses are very rough, and were too short going forward, he had to make a big piece. He said the passenger side was great, he's not sure why the two were so different, maybe they made a mold out of a passenger side for the driver stampings.

Going in for a guide coat of primer, all the front end is hung....

UPDATE:

Went up to the shop last Friday, and they were spraying the build primer on the fenders, hood, valance, doors, and deck lid. They were going to push the body in and spray that too early this week.

I will go up this coming Friday and take some pics on the progress.

Not sure what the hold-up was, but they did pump out a lot of work over the last 4 months. And looks like they have dedicated some time for my car, and it will be ready for paint here shortly.

UPDATE:

Was asked last week to provide a paint selection, they had moved everything into the booth and plan on doing the cut in Wednesday or Thursday of this week.

So had started a thread in the Body section regarding Atoll variations, and got some decent suggestions. Only way you really can 'see' a color is on a car, so I drove around to different dealerships and checked out colors. Most were too 'purple' for my liking, and some didn't quite 'pop' the way I was hoping for, so I ended up picking a Caddy color, Opulent Blue.

I'll go up Friday and take some pics of the cut in, see how it looks.

Can't wait to see some color on this car ! Your building a killer street machine.

HWYSTR455 05-04-2016 08:59 AM

Yeah Mike, I can't wait either, has been one delay after the next with this project! And over-budget is an understatement!

Glad to see it's going into the booth. I can't wait to see it painted. Going to be a sweet car.

Really looking forward to seeing the Opulent Blue on it....

Sounds like a great build -- EFI, overdrive, A/C. Glad you didn't put an LS motor in it.

Cool back story on the car, too.

Let me know how the body bushings work out -- curious to hear if you notice a harsher ride with these.

On the rear gear, certainly seems like 3.73 would be fine with an overdrive and 18" (or was it 17") tires. I'm thinking about an overdrive for my 68, which has 3.90 gears now.

No heartburn on the cloning, either. Most Judges are a bit too valuable to use as daily drivers.

Thank you Scott, and yes, the car does have a history. As a matter of fact, with the local 'enforcement' folks too, which was a driving factor of changing the look and color! No pun intended!

Drove the car like 90k miles with this combo, 461, 373s, 4L80e, and IMO, the gears are perfect. No sacrifice on the bottom end, and better gas mileage than most new trucks and SUVs.

The 442 is a small block, and it will get some hand me down parts for an OD, it's getting a 4L80e too, and am doing 411s in it. The 342s it has now is too much of a compromise on the bottom end, for a small block, and it suffers IMO.

In the 422, prior to the Holley Terminator TBI setup, it did around an uncorrected 13.66 as I recall, hot day, idling with AC on the staging lanes. It laid down some on the top end due to the 670 cfm carb, so pretty sure once it's dialed, it will be in the high 12s. With 411s, maybe mid 12s. Will see, but it's going to be like next year I do the trans, I need to finish this car first.

Ok, just got back from Cancun, and the body guy texted me some photos, the cut in is DONE! Woo-hoo! They are going to do a mock up, break it down again, and then shoot the rest most likely this week! Talk about Christmas!

So the Cadillac Opulent Blue looks great! I was worried about the level of 'pop', and that it might be too dark in indirect light, but I think it's perfect, and exactly what I wanted! Guy knew I was worried about it, so he was nice enough to push the thing out into the sun to snap a pic.

You can see in the one pic the '67 GTX they are doing, incredible history on that car, big block 4 speed, manual brakes & steering, definitely order to fly.

I wil go up Friday and snap some more pics, and fingers crossed, they may have it ready for the booth or even sprayed by then!

UPDATE:

Well, a number of collision jobs bumped me, but did see some progress, and am not just 'in line' anymore, but my job is being worked. Whew!

All the mock up is done, and they have begun spraying again, and today they are working the hood, deck lid, and endura. Once they shoot clear on these, they are rolling the body in, and that might even happen this afternoon. If not, Monday for certain.

Here's a shot of the hood and endura with color, waiting to get clear. The suspense is unbearable!

My word man, that Opulent Blue is incredible!!!!!

I had no idea it would look that incredible when I suggested it. Wow! I'm excited for you!!

HWYSTR455 06-25-2016 10:13 AM

I'm surprised at how the color flips around in different lights, I'm certainly happy with the choice.

Once I post pics of the finished job I will get multiple pics in different light, though not sure how it will show in pics.

COLOR!!!! Finally!!!

Here's a shot of the 1st coat sprayed, would have gotten more, but he didn't want me in there contaminating the booth. He will have the final 3 coats on today, and do cut & polish next week. Woo-hoo!
