Some older iron.....
.....for those of us who like to tinker with the early Pontiac V8s.
1959 2-barrel intake - 38.5 pounds. http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC02531.jpg http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC02535.jpg 1959 Tri-Power intake - 39.45 pounds, surprisingly enough just one pound more than the 2-barrel intake. http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/DSC02641.jpg http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/DSC02646.jpg The cast iron 1959 Tri-Power thermostat housing weighs in at 2.85 pounds, a true heavyweight with the built-in engine lifting loop. http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/DSC02816.jpg |
The Lightweight Champ.....
.....of all the factory iron Tri-Power intakes.
1965 Tri-Power weighing in at a scant 34.80 pounds, 36.20 pounds if including the 1.40 pound cast iron thermostat housing. The bare 1965 intake weighs nearly 12 pounds less than the previous year 1964 intake. http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/DSC02749.jpg http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/DSC02750.jpg http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/DSC02762.jpg |
Very interesting weights - vastly different year to year.
Water pumps next? |
I did not do a complete review of the intakes so this may be a second point for the Wenzler "early" aluminum Tunnel ram. 42 pounds. The Top plate is very heavy for the basic part vs say a Weiand piece.

My aluminum repro 66 Tripower from the Parts Place is 10 lbs bare. It has been ported,so don' know if that would make much difference.
|
Offenhauser 5499 dual quad intake 22lbs. Per the Butler web-site. (forgot to weigh mine before assembly)

I am gonna do this with all my ex-girlfriends. Will post up pics and weights soon!!

1967 Firebird 400 4bbl intake
5 Attachment(s)
apologies if any repeats, but I have a few manifolds and took the time to weigh them to contribute here.
first up, a 1967 Firebird 400 4bbl intake. It has one plug on it that might take more time to remove than I had over my lunch break to take all these pics so it stayed on. otherwise, this was the heaviest manifold in my stash weighing in at 39.3 lbs. Next, a 1969 4bbl intake. This came out of my GTO but I don’t know what it was originally from as my engine isn’t original. This one was slightly less at 38.3 lbs. |
67 vs 69 Pontiac 4bbl intakes
2 Attachment(s)
Going off on a tangent- as I was doing this I got curious as to the changes between these two intakes that, at first glance, might be taken as identical. Yet, the closer I looked more I noticed the differences. quite a bit of them, actually.
- carb mounting flange shape - groove on the 67 carb flange - pressed in vs screw in plugs - less pipe threaded holes drilled - lack of casting info on the bottom - 1 vs 2 bolt holes for the choke spring - casting # info and locations |

I also have this ’71 HO intake I’m storing for a friend (He will sell it for the right price btw) and a new Torker 2.
the ’71 weighs 13.2 lbs without the crossover and 18.8 lbs with it. The Torker 2 weighs 14 lbs |

Intake

Been trying this setup that I installed a few weeks ago.
Definitely keeps carb and runners cooler. Motor seems really happy with it aswell. 9799068 with seperated water crossover and repop 69 Exhaust crossover. Gerry |

They're unusual, but I wouldn't call them rare. |
