Short Baldwin B39 is the same as Hastings LF222.
Tall Baldwin B9 is the same as Hastings LF212.

Another option that should be around for quite sometime, the Application Listings go as far as 2012 for GM, is the Wix 51522. (https://www.wixfilters.com/Lookup/Pa...spx?Part=78145)

Nearly the same specs as 51045, only slightly shorter and a lower burst pressure. (if you reach the burst psi.... you have other issues)

I use this filter on the GTO and my truck. 1 PN serves 2 applications.

The Baldwin and Hastings filters are still USA made and excellent quality. Pretty much everyone else has sold out to Tiawan or China, and the quality it showing it.

I had been useing AC Delco on all my other vehicles until the last batch I ordered for my Nissa Xterra showed up with a plastic basket to hold the filter element in place and the shell was obviously thinning and crushed easily. JUNK!

I used a cross reference and found Baldwin filters to replace them. Now using Baldwin or Hastings on all my vehicles, and power equipment and they are top quality parts.......

I like the K&N HP2006. Way too expensive but that nut on the bottom makes it a lot easier to get on and off around the headers on my 65 GTO.

We cut oil filters open to inspect the elements after break-in on the engine dyno. I have noticed a couple things about WIX/NAPA filters since they were bought out a couple years ago. 1. The cans are thinner than the older ones. They cut through much more easily than the older ones and are surprisingly thin. 2. Many of the WIX/NAPA filters are just slightly shorter, and smaller diameter than ones from 1-2 years ago with the same part number. You can see it visually and my cup style filter wrenches will not grab and hold the new filters as well as the older ones. Much like many food items that are shrinking in the grocery, the filters are shrinking very slightly and I assume to save a penny or two on each one. Still like the filters but they are cutting corners in ways only the careful consumer would ever notice. FWIW.

Both Baldwin filters and WIX filters are part of a diversified group of manufacturing companies.
Both with filter products in the world market and with manufacturing and distribution centers in the United States, and worldwide.
Including China.

I would suspect other companies that offer oil filters might be in the same situation.
And not just oil filters, one might question where any automotive products are manufactured.

Yeah a lot of that stuff has moved over seas, including Baldwin. They now have facilities in Europe, Mexico, Australia, China, South Africa and Morocco according to a site search.

I suspect that's pretty common with most any filter these days, or anything else you buy, lol.

Just doubling checking here, if talking about the small balwin filters..........the B39 is 3 11/16 OD and doesnt fit on my 66 with dougs headers, but the B30 is OD 3 and length iis 5 1/8............that one seems to fit my car.

Either is fine Kenth. I've cut both of them apart on a regular basis and they are exactly the same internally. The Napa Gold used is the black version, all Napa does is remove the 5 from the part number and sell it as a 1258. It's the Wix filter as well.

Is there a problem with using an AC Delco PF61 on a car that isn’t raced and driven sparingly?

I've never liked the ac delco filters. Even way back in the 90's I felt they were poor quality when I was cutting them apart, typically finding a loose filter inside due to the retaining device they used shrinking. Can't remember for sure now if it was a piece of rubber but that's what comes to mind. I want to say something with a piece of cardboard, lol But it's been so long since I've cut one of those open my memory is fuzzy, I've just never been interested in revisiting those things.

Has anyone confirmed that the Wix is actually discontinued? Summit seems to be the only place that no longer has it, but it looks to be readily available everywhere else. The Wix site doesn't list it as discontinued either.

Did some research. Some other sights say the WIX is discontinued yet many suppliers still show them in stock. Country of origin is now showing China. Better off following Cliff’s advice and look for Baldwin/Hastings from now on. Years ago I purchased four dozen WIX 51049 long filters when they were US made. Still working through them. Also have 18 AC PF24 filters in stock.
