about 1986-87...

...I bought a 1/25 scale '64 Corvette model car from a guy(the original owner) for $14,000. and he gave me the real '64 Vette for free...had something to do with a divorce settlement, never heard how it all worked out

...my daughter is 35 years old now...the Vette was sold a few weeks later for $16,500 to a local car dealer, they sold it to Mershons and thats the last time I ever saw it...it was 99% original

ps...I called Mershons to let them have the car for $16K...they said I was "too high"...but they bought it from the dealer I sold it to for $18K and had it priced at $21,900..............

When I was in High School (the 70's) I was in a larger town, Central Oklahoma. Saturday, summer afternoon.....A bottle truck had rounded a corner, w/ ALL his sliding doors rolled up....guess what:) every case of sodie pops, full and empty, hit the asphault, talk about a mess...wished I had a pic of that...

This was my 'pro touring' car before the name existed. I built it in 1987
http://i927.photobucket.com/albums/a...e/boomer_2.jpg

69 Lemans, GTO glass tilt front end, highly modified front frame to correct for bump steer, etc, had 2 fuel tanks totaling about 42 gallons, Recaro seats, roll bar, 4,000+ watt stereo with 8 amps and 8 12" subs, Ram Air IV 428, scattershield, N2O, body was lowered around the frame for more ground clearance, raised trans tunnel, nash 5 speed, 12 bolt posi, 4 wheel discs, 5 row staggered core radiator, 2 independent charging systems, 2 alts with custom brackets, 4 batteries, 2" headers, mini tubbed, narrowed rear frame. Front rims were 10" wide on Pirelli 285/40-15 centerlines. Rear rim width was 12" wide on Pirelli 345/35-15s too much to mention. It was an animal and would hurt your neck on long , fast turns. Each tail light had its own bypass switch, also brake light bypass and separate head light switch so I could run only headlights if desired. Headlights were hi powered Hellas. Neat car and learning experience. Still have it , in peices.

Yes, it had a trailer hitch too and I did use it. All my cars have always had them.

Here is a pic of where the back seat used to be. Custom sub woofer box had about 80 parts, 12 cubic feet divided in quarters so each sub had exactly 2 cubic feet. To get the box into the car, I had to remove the right door. The floor was also lowered to get the box to be the right size. It was important that the box was not built too high. Did not want anything blocking my vision.

This was also the first car I used a wink mirror on. Had 8 mirrors total for 360 degree visability without turning my head. Still use these set up to this day on subsequent cars. 4 of the amps where built into the rear footwell area and lockable and fan cooled. The rest were in the trunk. This was before big stereos were 'getto'. Back then this audio stuff was very pricey. I remember the amplifiers alone were worth around 4 grand back then. This stuff is much cheaper now.

What an experience this car was. Hard to comprehend unless you rode in it and heard it. Great memories.

No longer a sticky?

Steve, I'd dare say you've seen these. First one...Daytona 62, looks like they've just unhooked the trailer. Is it really Linda Vaughan?

Yes, it is Linda.

Kurt was nice enough to make it a sticky but, at the top, it seems to get overlooked. I know I rarely look at stickys, not sure why, just natually glance down the page to see what is new. Not sure how others treat them.

Phil, your first GTO photo..... was it Martinique Bronze? Looks sharp! If it is, it's the color mine is supposed to be.
