3/16'' is too high for float setting, IMO... i use 1/4 to 9/32 , as my float setting... and that is a 750 1971 Buick carb... Your pump could be problematic, but, still think float is too high......

You need a cam, more than you need portwork... and a real good valve job, is more important , than porting, with your combo... Im building an NHRA stocker, right now, and im not porting, acid...
