i like the hp-2006 from k&n. stupid expensive, but that nut on the bottom makes life way easier doing an oil change with headers in the way.

Can't speak to Brawler specifically but had a few cheaper Holley and Quick fuel carbs that were lacking in quality control, and found that trading those for more expensive holley/qf carbs did not...

I didn't know about the choke issue, that makes sense! And it sounds like the exhaust issue doesn't mean much at the power levels of most street cars.

i wiped a cam on a sbc years ago, just changed the cam, lifters, and oil .... drove it for several more years and never noticed an issue ... oil pressure was good and the car ran great.

i run an open element on a 72 chevy 4x4 i use to plow snow. i have a functional exhaust heat riser valve and exhaust crossover, works great. but that is a 4150 carb and maybe the bigger primaries...
